We all know that the offensive is only half of the game. Most players focus on shooting, assists and rebounds and don't care about anything else.

For example as perimeter defenders - many point guards instead of playing defense and moving - they are just resting around the paint and waiting for rebounds. So they have better raw numbers and more power to shine at offensive side of the court.

But so what if you score some points if lack of your defense will give open shots and easy points to your opponent?
You will earn fame and numbers but your team will earn nothing.

That's why I am more excited about 2-way players but unfortunately there are very few of them.

However lets forget right now about defense and concentrate on offensive matchups from last 4 seasons and compare the best point guards of this league.

    I'm using stats from http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fantasy

It's not about which team won but about which player had better offensive stats on the same position in the same game. We are comparing point guards.

    Players :
    Stephen Curry
    Chris Paul
    Russell Westbrook
    Kyrie Irving
    John Wall

James Harden is there as shooting guard so he's not on this competition

When I'm writing this I don't know exact results. This is interesting to me, also.

    2013-2014
    1. Curry : 78% matchups won (61 wins 17 loses)
    2. Paul : 75% matchups won (52 wins 17 loses)
    3. Wall: 72% matchups won (63 wins 24 loses)
    4. Westbrook 61% matchups won (34 wins 21 loses)
    5. Irving 48% matchups won (30 wins 32 loses)

    2014-2015
    1. Paul : 85% matchups won (71 wins 12 loses)
    2. Curry : 81% matchups won (71 wins 16 loses)
    3. Westbrook 78% matchups won (45 wins 12 loses)
    4. Wall: 67% matchups won (51 wins 25 loses)
    5. Irving: 55% matchups won (41 wins 33 loses)

    2015-2016

    Curry : 79% matchups won (69 wins 18 loses)
Westbrook 78% matchups won (68 wins 19 loses)
    Paul : 75% matchups won (48 wins 16 loses)
Wall: 62% matchups won (44 wins 26 loses)
Irving 57% matchups won (33 wins 24 loses)

    2016-2017
Westbrook 86% matchups won (68 wins 11 loses)
    Curry : 77% matchups won (65 wins 19 loses)
Wall: 74% matchups won (58 wins 20 loses)
    Paul : 72% matchups won (43 wins 16 loses)
Irving 55% matchups won (45 wins 36 loses)

Average from last 4 years :
    1. Curry 79% (matchups won)
    2. Paul 77%
    3. Westbrook 76%
    4. Wall 69%
    5. Irving 54%

Don't forget about defensive aspects of this. For example : If Cp3 has to cover Curry when they play against each other, Curry doesn't have to cover Cp3. One of them can rest on defensive side of the court and one of them cannot. But anyway C

Maybe someone will be interested, I don't know. I was.
One of the conclusions is : Irving is not that good.

    Nice.

So basically we got a bonafide superstar PG to add to James Harden. Still find it hard to believe and amazing.

I'm sorry if it came off wrong, it's just that we sort of already know that.... I mean yeah it's revealing on Irving but that's no shocker either atleast to me... Curry, Paul, Westbrook are the top pgs in the game....

Also has nothing to do with Melo... Melo Melo Melo

Appreciate the effort, OP. CP3 might not get the media attention that Curry does, but their impact isn't that much different.

Thanks ... their offensive impact. What will happen if you put defense to the equation ?

Anyway .. it's a Melo Melo Melo, and Woj did not say anything about it. So until Woj I am not so excited. But you're right : it's a Melo's forum right now :)

Curry didn't have to guard CP3, but now is he supposed to guard Harden? Curry will struggle against us not just because CP3 will defend him but now Curry has to play defense
