At this point those guys don't give a f**k how good the MLB team is, they just want to be MLB players. Would you rather make 40K a season in a career holding pattern, or 60K a month building service time towards much higher earning potential and career freedom. Pretty easy choice.
Sorry for the double post. I was going to say, one thing for sure this team keeps folks accountable. The preparation at the minor league is like nothing we've seen before. In years past, we'd all be eyeing 2 or 3 guys. But now, It's hard to keep count of who's coming up next. Too many deserving guys, it's great to say it's a good problem to have, but you can't help but feel for these guys who've earned the right to make it to the next level.
The guys that are truly worthy will get their money eventually. But I do concede that the opportunity for a 15 or 20X improvement in income cant slip their minds. And maybe your right that that is their prominent feeling at this point in their careers. But you have to wonder if guys towards the end of their careers that look back at early decisions to move to mediocre clubs for the money regret it.
I think with Bregman's recent succes and George likely being out, we can see him hitting 2nd today. This is My prediction... 1. Altuve 2. Bregman 3. Reddick 4. Gattis 5. Gurriel 6. Marwin 7. Fisher 8. Jake Day 9. Morton
Who's the DH? Innurestin' stats for their RH starter, whom I've never heard of: vs LHB: .628 OPS (120 ABs) vs RHB: 1.046 (144 ABs) Something tells me he throws a pretty good changeup.
I don't see how they can; they have 12 pitchers right now with two due back this weekend & Peacock likely headed to the pen - *SOMEONE* has to go. I suppose they could option Martes if they want him starting - but he's been so good...
They may rather want him starting regularly in AAA even if they plan on having him in the pen. Until the end of August, then get him back up in time to be playoff eligible. Just an immediate thought. Musgrove, Feliz also seem like guys that could go back down.
Hmmm...so you're saying Charlie Morton and his career .075 avg (19 hits in 255 ABs) is our DH. Would LaRussa bat him 8th?
Hmm this makes sense with one less batter in NL but I feel like they are showcasing Fisher. I still believe Tucker is the guy we keep but we get rid of Fisher and prospects for a Britton.
I'm guessing Astros make some trades by the weekend making this even more complicated. I have a hard time seeing Astros keep Musgrove up unless Astros trade Martes or a starter like McHugh or Fiers.
Of course we do with the recent Springer injury. But there has to be some showcasing (even though teams know what they are getting). He could be that main guy to snare a Britton.
I guess with Correa's injury you could put Marwin back at short and Yuli back to first. Would you rather see Marisnick at the plate than Aoki right now? Or are you saying you want Jake to start purely from a defensive standpoint?
