Another reason I don't expect the Cavs to be involved in a Melo deal is that they have their hands full trying to flip Kyrie to the highest bidder. They don't have time to play with the Knicks who can't offer them anything they really want.

Seriously, every leak today from CLE has been "king's ransom." That means turning around within 24 hours and making a deal for a 33-year-old Carmelo Anthony as the headliner? C'mon, people.

Indeed it is. Its also been the most frustrating one because its essentially been the Knicks delaying the inevitable the entire time. They don't want to look stupid but they are going to look stupid no matter what because their stupid front office made stupid decisions that led to a stupid situation where the only outcome is them looking stupid.

    Oh, Mr DuBose.....

Absolutely killing it with all of the podcasts lately, and yet you still have the time to straighten out the knuckleheads over here at clutchfans.

Seriously though, phenomenal job on the podcast. Discovering an almost daily rockets podcast last season was a revelation to me. I don't miss an episode. Keep them coming.

    David Aldridge:

Do you still see ‘Melo eventually ending up with Rockets? I know his camp said he only wants Houston now as priority!

I’ve learned never to say never, Ryan. It’s hard to see how that deal comes together, though — unless, somehow, the Rockets are willing to do something they currently haven’t been inclined to do, like including a young player like a Clint Capela in any potential deal with the Knicks, or taking Joakim Noah’s contract as well. Could they do so in a (pardon the pun) New York minute? Sure. But as of this writing, they haven’t been, and the Knicks aren’t at all interested in Ryan Anderson, or Maurice Harkless from Portland.

Stephen A. (from yesterday I believe)

If Carmelo is going to the Thunder, who are the Knicks getting back?

Who said he's going to the Thunder?

There are reports of mutual interest.

There's not mutual interest unless he's changed his mind. Houston was #1, Cleveland was #2. If you're OKC & you're lucky enough to get your hands on him & he wants to go there, if that were to happen, I would have to think about who's it gonna work with? Do you really want Enes Kanter back? You might be interested in Steven Adams but would you make a straight swap? I can't see that. With Westbrook AND George, do you have enough basketballs? I don't see that happening. Plus I don't want to see him wanting to move away from his kid & family for OKC. Cleveland? Sure. Houston? Yeah. OKC? I'm not so sure. Haven't spoken to him in a few weeks but I'm not so sure.

So who is Houston sending back?

It was supposed to be Ryan Anderson but the Knicks will not accept that. Houston, in concert with the Knicks, are trying to get other teams involved but that was before Kyrie Irving said he wanted to be traded & NY was one of the teams on his list. Knicks might be trying to compel Melo to go to Cleveland because they would prefer Kyrie over anyone outside of Westbrook that OKC has to offer.

Carmelo for Kyrie a straight swap?

In all likelihood, yes. I'm sure the Knicks would have to throw in a pick or something. It wouldn't be enough for Cleveland to just give up Kyrie just for an aging Melo. They would want additional pieces & we'd have to speculate what that would be.

By the way, in fairness... while I don't see any way POR makes sense as a third team for NYK and CLE, you could mount a case for NYK and OKC. The argument would be that Portland was the team who liked Kanter enough to give him the ridiculous 4-year, $70M deal in the first place. That said... I have a hard time buying it for two reasons:

1.) With OKC's rumored interest being relatively new, seems a stretch to think negotiations would go that quickly
2.) I think even people that like Kanter have to acknowledge that he can only play the 5 in today's NBA. He's enough of a defensive liability there... put him at the 4 vs. guys who can play on the perimeter, and he'd be beyond lost. Portland has Nurkic starting at the 5 now and drafted Zach Collins in the lottery... so if POR makes a consolidation move to take on a major salary, I'd be surprised if it's there. Forward (Ryno) makes a lot more sense.

I'll just be shocked now if anything happens with melo before the knicks know 100% that they can't make a deal for Kyrie work

I think Melo is gonna come here for the same reason CP3 did, and that's was for harden, MDA, and Morey

While watching the CP3 presser I thought it was funny how CP3 said he hopes Morey can teach him a few things about the CBA, which Morey laughed and said "didn't you help write it"

As harden has praised Morey before, I think CP3 knows Morey will take care of this roster and flexibility for the remainder of his career and sees a guy who wants a team of all stars to win.

I don't see Melo changing his mind or going to a ****ed up situation in Cleveland. I think Lebron has shackled that team by hooking up all his boys with fat contracts

Also not worried because if the thunder or someone else actually had a chance at getting Melo, I have no doubt Morey would offer up Gordon or Capella. He isn't gonna let the thunder get PG13 and Melo. I guarantee Melo and CP3 talk everyday and Morey just knows to stand ground cause he's "hell bent" on rockets

This is definitely a change in tune for Aldridge, who said the day after talks "paused" two weeks ago that he expected talks to resume early the following week and acted as if a Melo-to-Houston deal was essentially inevitable. That said, while he's usually good, it does make me wonder if he's all that plugged in on this particular deal... because IMO, it was clear the moment of the "pause" that this was a matter of weeks/months, rather than days.

It's so ridiculous that this passes as "insider" analysis.

I agree. The Knicks have absolutely no reason to make a move right now. They will continue to try to push a Melo for Kyrie swap until the Cavs stop taking their calls.

I agree as well - I just wonder if CLE is stupid enough to trade a 25 year Kyrie for a 33 year Melo.. Straight up Swap - Wouldn't you think Porzingis would have to be involved in a trade like that?

Look, David Aldridge said about Yao when he was drafted that he was more impressed with Houston's selection of Bostjan Nachbar at #15. Yes, that was a long time ago, and it has nothing to do with "insider information," but it reinforced the idea that a lot of these sports reporters are simply Joe Schmoes who combined hard work (sometimes), schmoozing and luck in order to turn into a TV face with a microphone hovering just below in order to capture any sounds that escape its mouth.

I don't even follow Aldridge on Twitter. I've never really considered him to be all that plugged. He seems more of a "sources confirm" type on stories put out by others.

However, I do think there is a sense of "if it hasn't happened by now there's no reason to think it will happen unless the Rockets change." Not everyone is as convinced as the people here that the Knicks can't go into the season with Carmelo on the roster.

The thing is they lose nothing of value trading with us. Hell they might be gaining assets from us for Melo.
