We got more defensive players to help ariza play less minutes not to replace him. He's no spring chicken anymore and the more rest he gets the better he is. He is not going to be fresh hitting those threes at a constant clip if we are going to have him continue to guard the best wings every minute of the game. Especially if he is our only wing defender. Ryan should be the only one shipped out.

Was obvious Melo wouldn't be interested in OKC--not close with WB or Paul George, they'd have to gut their supporting cast to get him, and who the hell wants to live in OKC.

If the trade comes down to throwing in either a 1st or Ariza, I'd trade him and keep the 1st.

    Meh, I don't think so.

What he brings for this team both on and off the court is too valuable for him to be a filler. I'd honestly rather us send out an additional future 1st then send out Ariza. Our first should be in the 25-30th range for the next 5 years, considering his talent and chemistry with Paul/Harden I think he's well worth it.

lol youd rather keep a very late, not really any value 1st (like pick 25-30), than trevor ariza? this site keeps getting dumber and dumber by the day this summer

    Why
. I suppose but I would have two serious questions 1. Why would you make this trade MORE complicated 2. Who would be more value than Ariza at 8 million dollars? There's a reason we have treated him like 12 years a slave.

Now that we have Tucker and Moute, we can include Ariza in a package for Melo with minimal impact in our rotation. Tucker gives us pretty much everything that Ariza does (good defense across multiple positions, decent 3-pt shot when free) plus he is more athletic and better on the break. Moute is an excellent cover at the SF and PF spots.

HOU in: Anthony (2y/$26m) and Lee (3y/$12m)
HOU out: Anderson (3y/$20m), Ariza (1y/$7m), 1st round pick (to NYC)
Why HOU does it: Upgrade the PF spot with a legitimate star. Ariza is replaced in the lineup by Tucker. Lee provides additional 3&D (40% shooter) from the bench. Get rid off Anderson contract

NYC in: Harkless (3y/$10m), Leonard (3y/$10m), Frye (1y/$7m), Vonleh (1y/3m), Houston NGs/scrubs (TQ, SL, CO, IT), Cleveland 1st round, Houston 1st round
NYC out: Anthony (2y/$26m) and C. Lee (3y/$12m)
Why NYC does it: In essence, they turn $38m of long-term contracts (Melo, Lee) into $20m of long-term contracts (Leonard, Harkless), $11m of expirings (Vonleh, Frye), 2 young cheap talents (Onuaku, Taylor) and two 1st round picks. Next off-season they have an extra $18m in cap space plus 2 picks to improve their squad. Harkless is a decent starter for their team. Taylor, Onuaku may develop into useful pieces. Solid trade financially and gives them some hope for the future.

POR in: Anderson (3y/$20m), Jefferson (2y/$2.5m)
POR out: Harkless (3y/$10m), Leonard (3y/$10m), Vonleh (1y/3m)
Why POR does it: They turn $20m of unproductive long-term contracts (Leonard, Harkless) into $20m of relatively productive long-term contract (Anderson). They improve their PF spot and remove the logjam at SF. Aminu starts next to Anderson with Turner and Crabbe as wing back-ups. They can cut RJ or keep him for veteran leadership. They get significantly better at zero cost from a difficult financial position where improving the team is tough.

CLE in: Ariza (1y/$7m), Napier (1y/2m)
CLE out: Frye (1y/$7m), Jefferson (2y/$2.5m), 1st round pick (to NYC)
Why CLE does it: Ariza is a great upgrade in their rotation and a player they have coveted for some time. Lebron gets an additional play-maker in his own Heat pick, Napier. Not only they get much better on the court, but they also save some money in 2018.

    Houston team after trade:
    Paul/Harden/Tucker/Anthony/Capela
    Gordon/Lee/Moute/Nene/Black

FAKE NEWS- Ariza shouldn't be a part of this deal unless we have someone else coming to Houston with Melo

While you make some good points, I think you could stand to Melo out a bit. At the end of the day we're all armchair experts when it comes to inside sauces and knowledge of the NBA.

People are underestimating the value of even a late first round pick. Don't forget Lakers got Kyle kumza with our first rounder from Lou trade and he could have easily been summer league MVP.
