Because he knows he'll screw up. He'll refer to the "I Did a Dream" speech from Martin Lawrence King and never live it down.
Nah, it's not that, it's that there's no point in showing up in front of a hostile audience of extremists and give them an opportunity to grandstand at your expense. There would be absolutely no benefit for Trump or anyone in doing so. Now there's ways that he could make positive steps when it comes to trying to bring people together (not that I think he will), but this simply isn't one of them.
I agree. I say he invites Frederick Douglass, Langston Hughes, and Maya Angelou to the White House. That'd be a good start.
No, then people would just be upset about him conspiring with Russia to perform necromancy at the White House.
Ha ha. Point taken. I honestly haven't been following the political news much- I gave in to my son's pleading and bought one of those 17-game weekday Astros passes- so now, starting July 31, I have to go to 17 games- and I've never been to more than one a year. So, I literally have zero time for anything but writing resumes and watching baseball games. Hopefully, the extremists on both sides keep amusing everybody, and Trump doesn't do anything royally stupid (I really don't even care about his tweets anymore- maybe it's better if he just spends his time doing that and leave the big decisions up to others).
Honestly I haven't been paying much attention to it either. At this point I'm kind of tuning most of it out because none of it seems all that interesting. I think it's healthy to tune politics out every now and again and focus on things that are really important like spending time with family and whatnot. There are worse ways to spend your evenings than going to Astros games.
He's not going to get assassinated or catch a beat down. Parameters would set for the speech/conversation. His attendance would've been a great look. Just a quick appearance. But like I said, it's no surprise. Not blaming anyone specific.
No, I love baseball, but 17 games? Geez. I agree - it's good to step back and get perspective. Of course, even in sports, we have to have these debates- the one going on right now in our house is- does winning a championship make you the best team that year, or should a team like the almost-undefeated Patriots be considered better than the Giants that year. You see? Even in sports, the scoreboard is not enough. Oy vey.
I'd just get a kick out of him talking about how brave Rose Sparks was for refusing to sit in the back of the train.
Does he have anything interesting or useful to say at such a venue? Was he even invited, and, if so, why? I think it's best for all involved, and would save a lot of embarrassment, if he stays away.
