We? aren't you a rangers fan? your avatar is the cowboys star. bandwagoning between being a dallas and houston fan?
oh snap. I don't have it in me to root for dallas. Then again, by the time I cared about NFL we already had the texans in town. didn't care about nfl till I was in college already. I only liked baseball and basketball most of my life. took a long time for me to be able to appreciate football because I played bball and baseball growin up but never played football.
Ahhh, well, being a Cowboy fan for the past 20? years probably prepped you for the Astros recent doldrums.
Well, I am 30 so I remember the dynasty and the Rockets ships, albeit I was young and not a huge sports fan yet. When I got really big into sports I was living in Vegas where I grew up. No Texans yet, albeit I was and always have been a cowboys fan. Born into it. Since no sports in Vegas I really double downed on astros and rockets who I rooted for along with the cowboys. I still root for the Texans and cheer for them. Just not against the cowboys. But yes. I've been a fan of 3.5 (Texans) major teams without any ship in 20+ years. Being a rockets, astros, cowboys and slightly texans fan has been a long time of not getting it done but cheering and rooting none the less.
Umm... anyone want Britton now? I have dreams of an Astros bullpen featuring Devo, Harris, Giles, Britton.
I didn't see this post before my other response to you. I've been a lifelong Cowboys fan, my dad was one and I inherited that from him. He didn't follow the NBA or MLB, so I didn't really know anything about those leagues until I started following them when I was 9 and got into sports big time. My dad was in the Army and we moved a lot, but I consider El Paso home. I wanted a Texas team to root for, and with both the Rockets and Astros being successful in '86 I started rooting for them. I've been a die-hard fan ever since. Look at my posting history...I'm sure you can find multiple posts during the 100 loss seasons from me. I've also been a CF poster since it was CC.net...my original handle was registered in 2001, I think.
Remember.... a lot of die hard Houstonians are Cowboys, rox and astros fans because of the TRAVESTY that was LUV YA BLUE moving to piece of -/$@ Tennessee I still wish that didn't happen or at least the Texans came a year or two after.
Same. I live in Dallas now and have always been a Rockets/Astros/Cowboys fan and I get so much s*** from Houston people for being a Cowboys fan and Dallas people for being a Rockets/Astros fan.
Well it's currently pretty awesome given the state of each franchise but yeah I've seen a lot of losing the past 15+ years especially if you include my school...A&M
Well Dez was just in houston buying out every piece of meat from Pinkerton's BBQ soooooo.... Dez to stros imminent and on the 2 yd line.
If after that series you guys are scared to give up stuff for Gray I don't know what to tell you.. Sure, it's hard to give up a top prospect for someone that might be a really good 4. But I am no longer automatically saying Keuchel/LMJ/MCHUGH as 1/2/3 Mchugh looked rough, LMJ looked worse, and Keuchel is just now getting back from injury. How can any of you want to stand pat? Also, there is absolutely no one we can trust in that bullpen with a 1-2 run lead. We have been blessed with an offense giving us huge leads but when they don't we can't hold it. I'd drop Tucker and Martes in a package for Gray and Britton or Wilson. We need help.
.... We're sort of saying the same thing: (healthy) Britton > Giles. We deviate in how that'll manifest. I maintain they'll deploy Britton FIRST, likely prior to the 9th. IOW, they won't wait to use him - if they need to put out a fire in the 7th inning, they'll bring in Britton. I don't see them doing that to Giles - 1) it'll break his routine; b) it causes unnecessary drama. Britton in the role of Andrew Miller is a much scarier weapon than sitting him on the bench until the 9th.
Right now we have two reasonably solid arms in the starting rotation, and both are pitching well above historical tendencies. If Keuchel comes back solid and LMJ can get over whatever is going on with him, we may just need a top bullpen arm, but it's an order of operation thing. Right now I don't see how we don't deplete anything in our pen without more reliable depth in the starting rotation. Shove us in a playoff situation right now, and Fiers is the only one I trust. That's putting a lot on the bats.
Our supposed 2nd and 3rd best pitchers failed to complete 5 innings against a sub-.500 team. I agree that the bullpen was of bigger concern during the series, but I fear you're whistling past the graveyard if you aren't concerned with the starting pitching performances as well.
