Hmm should we score more runs and risk having Musgrove pitch or just let Giles come in. Tough call here. : )
If you're gonna keep Peacock in the rotation, he could be huge in that pen role. I've always wondered how much his stuff would play up and translate.
Yeah I hope he can have better success in the pen if he stays up when Keuchel gets back. Hoyt should be the odd man out. If it comes down to Musgrove vs. Martes, then I would prefer they keep Martes up.
Six man rotation with Martes Musgrove as other potential long relievers? Come playoff time you do a three game tandem system with all but Giles Gregerson and Harris capable of pitching multiple innings depending on matchups. This is kinda where all of baseball is headed, the elimination of the "starter" as a guy that goes 7 innings under ideal circumstances. Only aces are guaranteed second and third times through the batting order.
Martes is staking a claim to that job as well. Obviously trades will play a role, but I am curious what we do if the pitchers are all healthy. Does Peacock move back to the pen? Or do we go with a 6 man rotation? There is not an obvious candidate amongst Keuchel, McCuller, McHugh, Morton, Fiers, and Peacock. James Hoyt is not long for the roster once Keuchel is back, but it will be curious who goes down for Will Harris - I'd guess Martes and Musgrove are pitching for big league jobs.
This was such a classic Collin McCugh game. Damn I have missed him. He wasn't even that bad, but he had his typical **** you inning, and then the offense bailed him out. LOL. It's gonna be a fun second half.
Musgrove's problems have tended to begin once he's thrown 60 pitches. Relief works is ideal for him since he'd rarely throw more than 30.
