This is the ultimate question: Now Kyrie seemingly gone, why would Melo want to join the Cavs when 1. It's not even clear that LeBron would stay after this season 2. Love-Melo-LeBron lineup doesn't even make sense, unless Love is willing to play a C or come off the bench.

I'm well known around these parts as being absolutely not an insider....but I'm pretty good at reading tea leaves.

We don't know that Melo still wants Cleveland, so you can't say we know that.

I do know that the Cavs could EASILY get a better return than the Knicks could possibly manage to come up with unless they threw Porzingis in the deal, so that's why I say that he'd have to be involved. Melo has no trade value right now, so getting him means nothing, especially to the Cavs.

Also, if's funny that you don't understand the reason why the Cavs can get a much better return for Kyrie than the Knicks can for Melo. I mean, besides the obvious that Kyrie is a better player, who is younger, and under team control for many years he also doesn't have a NTC which means the Cavs can send him to the highest bidder.......the Knicks on the other hand, have potentially 2 teams they could trade Melo to and their FO foolishly ran down Melo's trade value over the past year by being ridiculous. The Knicks are beggars with their hands out, the Cavs essentially have gold that they are looking to move to the highest bidder.

That's why the Cavs get to set terms.

Because Melo doesn't have to waive the NTC for a Kyrie-less Cavs

I didn't think of that. Carmelo at the 2 or love at the 5?

You'd probably put Love at the 5, but that would be suicide.

NOW y'all believe frank, when it's good news...

Ummm melo has a player option he cool with going to Houston or cavs to give finals a shot a year and see what happens from there.... he's not signing a 5 yr deal

Houston probably still first choice, but things happen fast and he just wants out

I'd bet Melo to Rox long before I could see Kyrie playing for Pop.

I wonder if PHX isn't logical trade partner for Irving.

Melo has his MF mind made up.

He's stubborn AF.. we know that.

Houston will have its super team. Don't let the Kyrie smoke get you down

Yeah the Kyrie news makes it obvious that Melo ain't playing in Cleveland with just LeGone. Pretty much at this point it's Rockets or nothing if the knicks are forced to trade him.

But LeBron and Melo are good friends. If LeBron wants Melo, the Cavs will do it juat to keep LeBron happy. And don't forget Rose may be going to the cavs too..

    The point is this.

There will be a long list of teams with better assets to acquire him, the Suns for example, the Bucks, the 6ers, all can offer packages that are much better for the Cavs.

There is no requirement that Kyrie goes to the Cavs or that Melo goes to the Cavs. If the Cavs are smart, they will trade Kyrie for Porzingis or hang up the phone because there is SURE to be a better deal out there for him...and since Kyrie holds 0 power here he will go to where they trade him.

I'm sure the Knicks would love to trade Melo, a player they were ready to cut, for a 25 year old All-star player. Unless the Cavs GM is dumb, it won't happen. You'll be acquiring a 33 year old player that has one year left on his contract.

You are talking about "If I'm the knicks," but remember, it's the Cavs that are doing the deals here. If I'm the Cavs, the Knicks get nothing until they put up Porzingis. Niklitina, however you spell his name, I'm not sure he has that kind of value other than just being an add on to a bigger trade like this.

I see teams like the ones I mentioned above as having more assets, or Kings, they have a bunch of prospects and they have been known lately to just swing randomly. I could see them giving up DeAaron Fox for Irving, tell me, you're Cleveland, and the Knicks tell you Porzingis isn't on the table, you going to deal with the Knicks or Kings?

LOL so to make Lebron happy they make their team worse? Yeah, that's likely to happen.

Would we want to move on from CP3 if he express a wish to join Lebron and Melo in Cleveland, and we land Irving and Love?

    CLEV:

CLEV Out: Irving, Love, Jefferson, Shump, Frye, Felder, Tavaras
CLEV In: CP3, Melo, Ariza, Dellavedova, Teletovic.

(Irving/Felder for CP3 have to be a separate trade to get around trade rules)

Reason: Cleveland goes full Banana boat and tries to appease Lebron and arguable has a better (at least more entertaining) shot at beat the Warriors.

    Houston:

Hou Out: CP3, Ryan Anderson, Ariza, 2020 Hou lottery protected 1st, Rights to Isiah Hartenstein
    Hou In: Irving, Love

Reason: Not sure this makes us a better team but at least Irving and Love are under contract for a few years. Go all in on offense and see what happens.

    New York

    NYK Out: Melo
NYK In: Shump, Fry, Jefferson, 2020 lottery protected Hou 1st, Rights to Isiah Hartenstein

Reason: NYK gets out from the Melo drama without taking much harmful long term salary and gets a pick and prospect.

    BUCKS:

    BUCKS Out: Dellavedova, Teletovic
    BUCKS In: Ryan Anderson, Tavaras

Reason: Turn two questionable contracts into one that is the best player and decent fit.
