We won't be able to afford Clint next year after we sign LeBron, so maybe we do send him away in a trade for Melo? I've been a Clint fan since he got here but here it makes sense to take the risk

Why do people think this changes anything with regards to Melo? He's still set on Rockets so. I wish Morey would move on though

Not a chance. If Kyrie is out, then there is no way Cleveland is a contender. They're done. Lebron gone no doubt.

So your theory is now that Cleveland is in complete disarray the chaos of the organization will make him feel right at home since he spent so many years with the Knicks?

But does he really want to play with a Kyrie less Cavs that's turning into a dumpster fire to play with Lebron?

I have a feeling Lebron doesn't even want to play with his team either.

Of course the Knicks can't refuse that offer, because they're the ones making it! In related news, the Knicks also can't refuse Carmelo and picks for Giannis Antetokounmpo -- but the Bucks sure can (because they'd get better offers), and Carmelo can (because he's not going to Milwaukee). Same principle here.

I would imagine the number of teams that Melo is willing to waive his NTC for is down to 1 with Kyrie trying to get out of Cleveland. If they lose Kyrie and add Melo, they'll still do well in the East because it's basically the D league and they still have Lebron, but they won't be serious championship contenders.

I just don't get Cleveland's logic in trading for an aging star(MELO) player who will leave next year.

You have Kyrie locked up for the next few years. You have no incentive to trade him right now unless the haul is huge(Boston has best package right now). He stated his reasoning for wanting to be traded as wanting to be the "MAN".

Lebron is going to leave after this season. So talk to him next season after Lebron leaves when he is the "MAN".

Because Kyrie is a better player than Anderson, on a more favorable contract. Of course it's easier to jump on.

I love all you posters putting yourselves directly in lebron's and melo's shoes to justify your positions that there's no way a melo for kyrie swap is even remotely possible. "Oh lebron wouldn't want melo now that kyrie is gone!" and "oh melo wouldn't want to join a kyrie-less cavs!"

None of you have even the slightest clue as to what is motivating to these players but what we do know FOR A FACT is that melo and lebron are very close, the knicks were completely unsatisfied w our trade proposal, Cleveland was the only other team melo would consider and there's nothing stopping them from involving a third team or making another move (love for a premier guard) to bolster their roster. Those are the facts. You can take your conjecture and hope it's accurate but none of what y'all are saying has been substantiated. Based on what we KNOW, you'd be foolish to think that Cleveland isn't a serious player in the melo race now.

Yeah that trade doesn't make sense for the Cavs, if they are going to trade Kyrie, they can get a lot better return than the Knicks can offer and Kyrie doesn't have a NTC so he could be shipped anywhere and still be under team control.

As much as the Knicks might like to think they the inside track at Kyrie because of Melo's relationship with Lebron and Melo's previously mentioned two-team trade list, Melo still ultimately holds a lot of the cards in the situation. If he doesn't want to go to the circus that will be Cleveland over the next few months and what is, frankly, an inferior basketball team, then he doesn't have to.

But on the flip side, the Knicks can say "Go to the Cavs, or we'll sit you on the bench and let you rot for a year." So assuming the Cavs actually take that deal (which they shouldn't), Morey could feasibly have a little more pressure to increase his asking price now that the Cavs actually have a decent package to offer the Knicks.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but if Morey does ultimately have to increase his asking price for Melo, I don't think many people would blame him.

By that logic, neither do you, so you can't say for sure that they are wrong. It's possible that you re right and Melo would still waive his NTC for Cleveland despite them no longer being a legitimate championship contender if he went there and not even mentioning the horrible fit with Lebron at SF and Love at PF leaving him no real place to play in a starting lineup unless you move Love to the 5 which is suicide. Anything is possible I suppose.

Remember that Kyrie has no power here.

He doesn't have a NTC and he has plenty years left on his contract.

Cleveland can and will send him to where they want to send him.

I think many of us just realize that Melo is not the best return for a 25 year old All-star player. Now, that doesn't stop Cleveland from making that trade, there are dumb teams out there, you did just have the Pacers trade Paul George for Oladipo and Sabonis after all.

I guess we'll find out how smart their new GM is. If he trades Kyrie for Melo then we can realize he's dumb as bricks and mourn for another East team becoming garbage.

So you're saying your conjecture is better than others?

You're saying lebron, melo, love is a tantalizing threesome?

The Cavs are cap screwed. The way they want to add melo was by not subtracting from the core. That's why they can't get it done.

Moving to melo Is not getting value. Creating horrible imbalance and redundancy.

It's also already been widely understood that loves contract is damn near immovable so you can't flip him to save the day.
