I'm with @durvasa on this one . . . this isn't a "fake news" joke thread along the lines of what Clutch has banned, instead this is a fairly clever "homage" or "parody" of the [Rockets sale] Morey NOT trying to buy Rockets and Yao Ming will not try to purchase Rockets threads. Clearly identifiable as not fake news, unless your fake news detector is broken. Had OP posted a "Tinman buys the Rockets"-titled thread, that would also have been a clearly not-fake news thread. So lighten up snowflakes. It is in fact the offseason. Gotta retain at least a little bit of a sense of humor.
You're missing the point. It's not this thread title could be mistaken as real news, no one believed this... it's that it's a supposed "joke"... Clutch clearly said that this is not a site for posting joke threads. It's his site and those are the rules. So if you think that's an over the top reaction then maybe this site isn't for you. I honestly don't even know why I'm replying this thread is done.
This is a joke thread. Clutch clearly said NO joke threads. Do you want to see 10 other joke threads pop up saying JLIN and @swyyyguy put together a group but they got priced out about 2 billion dollars ago or DMO and @basketballholic put together a group but they got priced out about 2 billion dollars ago or VSPAN and @DaDakota put together a group but they got priced out about 2 billion dollars ago and so on
Definitely a gateway thread though. You gotta draw the line somewhere and I think this deserves a ban.
I'm with @durvasa and @Os Trigonum here. This is obviously a parody thread. And it's actually the funniest thing @SamFisher has said in a long time. There is no reason to be upset.
good point, but by the same token do we really want to see four dozen Carmelo Anthony threads and an infinite number of DMo threads? if experience is any guide, the answer to THAT question is clearly yes. So where does one draw the line? This is a philosophical question that relates to the sorites paradox in Greek philosophy. Start with a pile or heap of sand and then remove it a grain at a time: when precisely does one cross the line between having a pile of sand and having a not-a-pile of sand? There is no precise point at which this occurs. Or start with a full head of hair and start pulling out hair one strand at a time: when does one cross the line between having hair and being bald? With baldness there is again no precise boundary; and this is because of the philosophical problem of vagueness. These boundaries are indistinct and cannot be unarbitrarily located. So too with the issue of joke threads. When does one cross the line between a humorous and well-intentioned thread joke thread and a pernicious and malevolent, bad joke thread? clearly these are distinct opposites at the ends of the spectrum, but where to draw the line in the middle will be forever fuzzy. a little Friday philosophy for us. far out.
There was also a "Yao NOT trying to buy the Rockets" thread posted two hours before. So two real ones, then the Parody. Parody Threads are not the same thing as two fakes threads titled "Melo signs with the Rockets" with Gotcha as the post....that actually happened ....back on the biggest F5 day of the year. Big difference and that was what led to Clutch's stickied rule. That said, I think Clutch does indeed mean that even these relatively obvious Parody Threads are not wothy of the GARM, like they are tolerated in the Hangout ... if not encouraged, when good. My vote would be this isn't Ban worthy, but don't ever do it again. I could see banning the next one though--temp ban like a timeout. And always banning the Melo fake news type extreme joke trying to actually troll and fool the GARM -- these more egregious ones are borderline permabans or monthly bans.
Not really, the point is it is littering the GARM. That's Clutch's decision and its not over the top because the GARM has been an absolute crap-show where people stopped coming in because of the nonsense. The GARM is one of the fastest and most legitimate places for information regarding the rockets. That is all undermined when it turns into spam. However, and not saying that my vote matters ---but I'd say Sam should be given the benefit of the doubt
I hear you, but some levity in the offseason (even in the GARM) shouldn't be off limits. I enjoy good parody threads now and then.
another good point, but the flip side is it's summer and there's absolutely NOTHING going on in terms of Game Action or Roster Moves. So therefore there should be NO THREADS. That's not the solution either. Everyone just needs to use a bit of common sense, exercise a bit of toleration, and have a bit more sense of humor. Can't we all just get along?
