I agree with this mostly. I think we can beat them at the long ball game, but it would require multiple shooters getting hot. Odds are pretty stacked against that, but hey... it's possible. Basketball is all about give and take so I agree that forcing them to defend much harder is the best strategy and with Melo in the mix, that is much more reliable than hoping the combination of Ego, Ryno, and someone else getting and staying hot. This is also a big part of why I feel like adding CP3 is such a big potential step as we can keep up an onslaught of offense now. My point wasn't so much that you had to play the Warriors at their own game, but rather you have to shooters in todays game to keep up with top teams. Otherwise, you just don't have sufficient firepower. Ultimately, the name of the game is to score points and threes are a HUGE part of that. Case in point, Gasol shot 268 shots last season. His entire career before last year, he shot only 66 threes.
Agreed. So the question is as a team or as an individual player is their a percentage in today's NBA you just have to hit to really have a chance at a top offensive? And more specifically what is that %?
FWIW, a Chinese fan saw Bobby Brown in UCLA and asked him about Melo and Bobby told him Melo will definitely be a rocket. He posted a pic of him and Bobby.
I know. We have to have Melo come out and say he prefers Houston before they give up on Cleveland and pressing Paul to the Spurs the whole time he was coming here. It's an LA and NY arrogance thing. That is why every star is going to the Lakers because where else would he go? I am not going to talk down the cities but I will do the media right here. We are the only team that I know of by the time this is done that will have bent over their three franchises and stolen a star from them that chose us over them. Usually they are screwing over every other franchise and laughing about how great they are. F**k em! I did want to see the full desertion from the Thunder but I would almost be happier if RW and PG13 stayed for the money if that meant the Lakers get no one. I would love to see them and the Knicks suffer for years just so once and for all the media can be brought to its knees when it thumbs it's nose up at Houston. I loved that the Rockets beat the Knicks for that very reason. That was their greatest team and they got nothing. If LBJ comes here look for daily riots. They will be inconsolable.
Can Lillard just stfu already? His thirst is pathetic. Portland attracts Evan Turner types, not players like Melo. Portland is mediocre, and will stay mediocre. Dame and CJ look corny talking about a player they have no chance of getting and acting like anyone sees their team as a threat.
I can see Dame, CJ and Zach Addy having lunch right now "It just makes too much sense guys, Melo has to be coming!"
I think they want Melo anywhere BUT Houston. They just want to stir the drama and they don't respect Houston so they just run over them as a plot device in their TMZ-esque news reporting. The Knicks, Lakers, Clippers, Celtics, and Bulls are the stars of the show...the Rockets are the side character..who roots for the side characters they say?
We can laugh all we want at Portland, but as long as we have the current assets on our roster as is, he ain't comin here either
