LOL! Sorry dude, Astros ain't trading for Darvish. There are win now moves to be made and overpaying for a rental like Darvish isn't one of them. They can build the pen or add a guy like Sonny Gray or whatever.

Not happening on this planet called earth.

It's not a Luhnow move to make. He ain't shipping four of his best prospects for a rental who would be gone Dec. 1st to a team like the Yankees.

Ok...but that's not what you said earlier.

abritrarily not thinking he can throw strikes in the playoffs is one thing... saying he doesn't throw strikes in any big situations is another.

And what you said above is a pure guess... not at all based on his save ops this year.

Hell, Gregerson was able to lock down playoff games. It's different... but it's the same.

So, Your expert opinion now is that Gray is only good because of the ballpark?

Another closer who didn't seem to be available a few weeks ago but now appears to be is Raisel Iglesias:

"The Reds are believed willing to listen on Raisel Iglesias, but word is it would take a “blow them away” type deal. “He could shake up the relief market,” one NL exec not with the Reds said. The Reds understandably love Iglesias and have him under contract for three more years. But everyone is keeping on eye on this, because he could move to the top of the current closer market, provided Zach Britton and/or Wade Davis don’t hit the market."

Iglesias (xFIP 3.17, ERA 1.61, LHB hitting .232 against and RHB .116) is another multi-innings guy whose numbers are similar to Harris's. He profiles as a stronger closer than Giles. His price is probably similar to that of Brad Hand or Britton, but he's definitely another pitcher for the Astros to think about. He's one of those guys you could put out there in the bottom of the 9th in game 7 of the ALCS or WS and feel that he's got a good chance of success.

    Agreed. Moves should be made.

Won't regret losing out on some production from a prospect in 2021. Never regretted losing Garcia. Will always regret not doing everything possible to win it all this year. (If they come up short).

I agree it won't happen. I said IF I am going all in that is what I would do.

I believe the Astros will get either a starter like Gray OR a reliever. I just don't think it gets us past the Red Sox, Indians, or Dodgers in a series.

If I had my choice I would go after a stud reliever. I think that is more important than the upgrade Gray would present over Fiers/Peacock/Morton and might cost less.

I also think people underestimate what it will cost to get anyone of the names being thrown around.
Remember the Giles trade.... we gave up Velasquez, Oberholtzer, Appel, Eshelman, and Harold Araus for Giles and Jonathan Arauz. That's a lot of bodies.

We should have played the Yankees in '98.

Great lineups get shut down by great pitching... and inexplicable off days between games 1-2-3.

Red Sox I'm not so worried about. Indians have WS experience. Kluber is the only Indians starter I'm really afraid of mainly because Carrasco and even Clevinger have been sporadic this year. Even Bauer for that matter.

Dodgers are interesting because they really only have Kershaw and Wood and a dominant closer. That's really it. In fact, I'm willing to bet the Cubs catch fire and snag a WC to verse the Dodgers in NLDS. Point being. We don't know. And I haven't even mentioned the Nats. I'm going to let the NL pick apart each other.

WTF? Those teams can kick out asses any series they want to. And we can kick theirs. Given our pitching situation, why not put the odds in our favor?

Do we really believe Luhnow isn't thinking we might need a real DH in the playoffs? He said he wasn't planning to get a position player, but a DH doesn't play a position, amirite? At least in September we can hide him on the bench for his player/coach role.

If you take Luhnow at his word, the Cleveland shut out matters to him. He also has a good career record against all possible AL challengers (OPS+ 106-140)

I missed Garcia, but really missed Guillen. It certainly wasn't a bad deal for us, but it didn't work out in the end. That 98 team was sort of like those 2001 Mariners. Really good offense, but relying on a bunch of pitchers having career years.

Patience. Let the pieces fall where they may.
I like how you take one little thing and blow it up. You done yet?

Yes, we need to make moves but Luhnow will not trade some of our best prospects for a rental. I can't see it happening.

The Indians are good. The Red Sox are good. We get it. It's not that hard to see.

We will makes moves but you will only see the Astros get rid of ALL for guys like DeGrom with team control for a few years... My main point is Darvish on a rental isn't worth 4 of our best prospects.

We get it. You want to win a WS, I do, Houston does, ClutchFans does. We all do.
