I still find it interesting to try to piece together what Morey offered vs what he gave PJ Tucker. It's always interesting to get insight into how Morey values players ... and a quote from an actual Free Agent like Redick wrt Morey's offer is pretty solid Intel. Looks like Morey valued Tucker higher than Redick for sure.
The deal was a sign and trade. Clippers agreed to work with us on that at the cp3 trade. Redick one of Paul's boys. We offered 3/50.
That's absolute garbage....You do realize the quote is from Redick's very own Podcast, where he talks for an hour about his free agency. He even made a documentary on this free agency. No where does he mention a SnT...lulz. Stop with the Fake News. I suggest you listen to it, next time, before you profess such incredibly wrong news. https://www.uninterrupted.com/watch/RmByGsNA/new-team-new-podcast?playlist=N4M8xKh5 I listened to it. Choice quotes: "My wife really wanted Brooklyn" he goes on and on about trying to please her, and BKN was a top choice, but only if enough stability. The offers coming in from several teams were "One year, Two Years, Two Years, One Year." He talked about several teams. He even talks about a call from D'Antoni...."they offered more money. My agent called me right after MDA, saying "I think you need to jump on this Philly thing." No mention of a SnT. He's talking about "all the money drying up." which would have nothing to do with a SnT....lulz. Redick says flat out in that podcast there wasn't anything close to the security of a 3/50 on the table. "I knew on July 1st, this year wasn't going to be anything close to last year's [money]." So, you're saying Clippers agreed to work with us, but didn't want to match the deal, and it fell through....AND Redick doesn't mention this when talking for an hour on this ... he mentions straight signing with Brooklyn, how his wife was pushing hard for that, Minny, ORL, straight sign with Rockets (with a phone call from MDA right before his Agent calling him), and 76ers was one of his original predictions, too. But no 'Clips tried to help me out with a SnT, too."
And apparently, since Redick talks about a phone call from MDA right before another from his agent (no one discussing SnT), Redick, his agent and MDA weren't aware of the other backdoor stuff that was being discussed. But....
The SnT was being discussed. Morey demanded the Clips throw in Ace Big and Jerry West refused: "Who?!?"
I thought it was common knowledge that the Rockets offered more total money than the Sixers, but over more seasons.
The only thing ever reported was that Reddick would like to join the Rockets it he money could work. What we've now learned is that we made a serious run at him including D'Antoni making a recruiting call.
It was probably sign Reddick and then trade EG for Melo. Melo would already be a Rocket if we had signed Reddick imo.
Odd, I would have posted it if I had realized it wasn't public. This is really a non-story. The Rockets offered him a short multi year deal for more total money than the Sixers offered, but no where close to $23,000,000 a season. I always viewed JJ as a long shot, it required a lot of things to go right for the Rockets, and they didn't.
And right after than MDA phone call, his agent called him and said, "I think you should jump on that Philly deal." meaning he wasn't getting the security that he talks about throughout his hour-long podcast. It's a good listen, y'all. "I was getting 'One Year, Two Year, Two Year, One Year'" from several teams. Minny, BKN, ORL, HOU all mentioned. He also says "The money was drying up." Had to make a decision. I think they made it when MDA called him followed by his Agent.
Also, the comment that Paul called him on July 1st was in the context of Houston wasn't on the radar at all, leading up to that. Don't take that as it was just between us and Philly. We jumped in late to the mix with BKN, ORL, MIN and PHI...and that's just who he mentioned who gave offers. Further said a role-player off the bench wasn't ideal, and that's what the HOU offer was for, obviously.
You're saying Morey was the original "pause" GM, waiting for free agency to start to see what Redick would do? I've heard of waiting on Melo causing us to miss out on free agents like Redick, but never waiting on Redick causing us to miss out on Melo. Melo is a trade. It could have happened in June when we first approached the Knicks with a trade. If EG for Melo was ever on the table (and who knows, maybe it still happens), any trade for Melo that Morey's willing to do, he pounces on it as soon as he can, before NYK change their minds ... and he figures out the bench after the dust settles. If he was willing to do EG for Melo, and Knicks were ready to sign, he doesn't say ... whoa, "pause", I have to make sure I land EGo's ideal replacement, first.
