you gotta remember, New York City in the 1970s was the Wild West, and 1977 was the worst, the year of the blackout and the riots. In October things were still not totally settled down. https://www.wired.com/2010/07/0713massive-blackout-hits-new-york/
When he got there at first he played the 3. When MDA realized Melo was a better fit at the 4 he wanted to make the switch and put STAT on the bench but both were against it. I think now it would be different and Melo knows he's a 4 at this point especially if he still wants to be considered Elite
If PHX was willing to deal Bledsoe, the trade would already be done. Reports said that PHX offered up Knight, NY wanted Bledsoe, PHX said no thanks.
Point Forward experiment was to start the next season. It had potential but the Guard play was that bad
Agreed At this point . .. it will happen or it will not happen Either way . . I expect we will do better next year than we did last year Rocket River
He played him more as a 3, but that was because Melo wouldn't buy into the offense and didn't want to play the 4. Then in his 2nd season with the team they signed Tyson Chandler so Amare was at the 4 and Melo stayed at the 3. Melo starting playing the 4 with Woodson after Amare went down with injuries.
I don't see the hold up with Bledsoe. He's no superstar or even potential star and could easily be replaced as the volume shooting PG they DON'T need next to Booker. They should know B. Knight isn't going anywhere if no one would take him for free at last season's trade deadline. Might as well buy him out.
Another thing that will make the fit easier is the move towards positionless basketball. The dichotomy is now much more wing vs. guard rather than 1 vs. 2 and 3 vs. 4.
My read is that they got involved in the 3 way deal and then realized that, since it was their assets actually going to NY for Melo, they theoretically could make the deal directly if Melo would agree to come to Portland. So why not make a go of it if things are back to square one?
Wouldn't up my offer at all. We'd be bidding against ourselves, quite literally They can't keep him, Cleveland is going to Gilbert induced dog ****, and he won't waive his NTC for anyone else. Doesn't mean we should go full *******, but continue in good faith, but their position is getting weaker not stronger. That said, if Mills can actually create a different multi team trade where we don't offer more (as it seemed Morey was doing it for both teams) that he likes more, well, we don't care.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yccpdvld Didn't realize this but we can basically do Anthony to rockets Anderson to suns Knight to knicks Only need to add 2 NG guys to make the deal work financially We include picks or rights to players to either team that demands it But perfect trade partners
