Right. There are a lot of things to potentially be afraid of with new ownership, particularly when replacing a great one like Les Alexander. Just saying that leaving Houston isn't one of them.

If the new owner is cool and hip, then it might be easier to attract free agents. Who would be cool and hip?

I wouldn't be upset if the Chinese govt gave Yao $2 billion to buy the Rockets. At least our jerseys would make sense again.

I'd be all in on this.

All, we've been spoiled. Les wants to do whatever it takes to win. If we get some shotty owner, we could be looking at some really dark times.

I hate to say it but a smart move not just due to value but also the team's near future expenditure. CP3 and, assuming we get Melo, means the team will be in luxury tax hell for at least 3 years. Les is rich but that's still a lot of checks to hand out.

Whether we can sustain our current contending core is heavily dependent on how rich the new owner is because whoever pays for the team will also have to pay a ton of salaries in the first few seasons. This is why teams generally like to strip down before a sale so there's not so much liabilities.

This can go either way. I imagine he will make lots selling the team now...

As recent as February the franchise was estimated at $1.65 billion...

And there have been innumerable times in the past I can recall Les give Daryl the freedom in the draft to buy picks for cash out of Les' pocket.

The only thing I think most had an issue with was Les' edict to never tank. And we saw some cobbled together rosters on the floor that fought to get to the playoffs and we ended up with middling draft picks. But conversely these are the same teams that most would say had the most "heart".

Most would say Les brought in top tier players like Dwight, TMac, Barkley and (even) Pippen. But he is also the GM that let Daryl trade Gay for Battier that made that Tmac/Yao combination that much better... despite injuries being that era's downfall.

Chandler Parsons before he got douchey, was a paid for pick.

But in the back of my mind I go straight to the new ownership that bought the Supersonics franchise.

I can ONLY hope as part of ANY deal, it is a contingency that team stays in Houston. And NO buyers who have ANY ties to Vegas or Seattle. That was even a concern for the Clippers with Balmer.

Will be interesting to say the least.

Of all new owners, I wouldn't mind Tillman. He does a great job of buying successful businesses, leaving management in place, and then maximizing the synergies amongst all his businesses. Free tickets to his casino whales, all restaurants in TC replaced with bubba gump or salt grass. I wouldn't be surprised to hear of him at least making a bid.
