The reason why this signing is so universally lauded while the PJ Tucker signing has a few skeptics is due to cost. Although PJ is the superior player, he cost the full MLE. If he doesn't pan out for some reason, that's a big blow at a time when we can't afford to waste any assets. Our window is now. Mbah a Moute cost us the vet minimum. We can't get any cheaper than that. We literally can't lose with this deal. I personally love Tucker though so this has been a good offseason so far.
Always ALWAYS about the MONEY $$$$$. Contract value HEAVILY INFLUENCES fan opinions. If Ryan Anderson signed for just $5 mil a season instead of $20mil, he'd have WAAAAY less hate more praise. If Tucker signed for same small money as Mbah a Moute, it'd be the same thing Tucker getting more praise less pessimism about if he's "worth it" .
Really good addition here as Luc can play both the 3/4 quite well defensively and does not need the ball whatsoever.
I've never seen so much excitement for a 31 year old journeyman coming off of 6 points and 2 boards. All that in 22 mpg as a starter. Apparently his defense is good and we got him for the minimum which is great and all but how many minutes will he get here? 15 or so off the bench? Last year he shot 39% from 3 but that was off of a very small sample size. 0.5 threes per game while attempting 1.4 per game. For his career he has attempted 0.7 per game. In 2015 he actually attempted 3 per game but only shot 30% from 3. I think labeling him a 3 and D guy is a stretch and possibly setting yourself up for disappointment IMO. Especially if you consider the that he's a terrible FT shooter. A veteran Defensive guy at the end of the depth chart to play spot minutes is more like it. Nice signing for the price but the expectations (from reading some of the posts) outweigh the reality.
Depth matters. We got a guy that was a starter for a playoff team to come be the 9th man for league minimum. That's solid. He gives us another guy that can allow us to play positionless basketball, which is the new rage.
glad to see Black, Tucker, Luc and cp3 on the team. all excellent defensive players. they aren't elite 3pt shooters so I am looking forward to see rockets running a conventional office this season
