Melo going to Portland has as much traction as the Rockets bringing back DMO

Houston wants Melo. Melo wants Houston. Melo can't be traded except to Houston or Cleveland, the two teams on his list. But here's the thing. The KNICKS have to agree to a trade. The Knicks are the ones in control because they do not care about losing him for cap space. Back in 2011, Melo was able to force himself to NY because Denver didn't want to lose him for nothing. What don't you understand? Knicks don't lose anything by holding onto Melo. If Melo won't agree to go to Portland, Melo stays in New York because Portland actually has a player New York wants.

We have a better chance at bringing in Malick Badiane than Portland does of bringing in Melo.

Or they can do the smart thing make the trade if he's not happy why keep him and break up the lockeroom that just would be a good move on the knicks part.

Knicks want Harkless. Blazers want Melo. Even though Melo has ntc, that's some traction right there. Especially since Dame, CJ, and Nurk are all on board.

I agree that the Knicks might not be scared to hold onto Melo and let him walk at the end of the year, but the PR damage they would do would be massive. Melo is still very influential and well-respected in the league. Other players (yes, including Kristaps) would certainly take notice.

Why would Houston offer ariza or Gordon when all they have to do is offer just as much as CLE? They're the only other ones Melo has agreed to waive his NTC for. The more teams Melo waives his NTC for the more leverage NY has and the more the team trading for Melo has to give up, leaving whatever team he goes to with less assets after he joins them. It's in Melo's best interest to leave NY holding the bag with little assets taken from the team he goes to.

Sure NY could just hold onto him but I'm thinking he and every GM is betting on them not doing that, hence the reason why their only getting crap offers in trade.

So sure the Blazers might be able to offer more. But Houston could beat the blazers offer if they wanted to as well. But why when the only people your bidding against are the cavs and knicks?

Break up the locker room? How would he do that? Knicks aren't playing to contend this year. Melo is a pro who is paid a lot of money to play there. And he likes NYC.

PR damage for asking your player to earn his money in the best city in the world? Melo signed a contract with the Knicks. Nothing horrible about asking him to honor it.

You have a upset Melo who want's a ring it doesn't matter if they're playing to contend or not melo wouldn't be good for that lockeroom.

This is a pretty good post, until you said.
You're right, it's so inconceivable a team goes from barely making the playoffs one season, to HCA the next.
What seed were the Rockets in 2016?

Let me guess the Rockets were screwed in 2016, they only lost games because Silver rigged it against them.
Sorry for applying logic and fact to make those walls come crashing down.

Sure there is, when you have been trying to run him out of town for a year and apparently told him he was being traded, to get him to waive his NTC.

Amazing how this honor thing only seems to apply to the players.

That's your dream, I get it, but Melo is a pro. Well respected. He wouldn't hurt the locker room at all. He's not Boogie Cousins.

I didn't think I needed to point out the fact no one on the Portland roster comes close to comparing to James Harden.

I am not implying it's 'inconceivable' for every team. I am implying it's inconceivable for Portland.

Sorry, I thought on a Rockets forum people would realise the simple things.

I already acknowledged Houston has HOF backcourt and of course, Melo would like to play with him. And as you're saying, Houston was 8 seed not much more than a year ago.
