playing against other bench players. And you are forgetting that lineup would shut some teams down defensively. All the bench is supposed to do is keep the team in the game or maintain a lead while the starters are out.
Coach doesn't run a ten man rotation, so it's safe to assume that 1 or 2 of our big 3 (if/when we get Carmelo) will be on the floor at all times. Pair that with Gordon and Tucker and that's one of the best second units in the league.
Tucker fits better. Tucker can hit a corner 3. CP3/Harden/Melo/ Gordon youd always have 2 that could create their own shot on the floor Harden led teams of beverley, brewer, ariza, terrence jones, dwight howard, capela. Those arent good offensive players. Thats what an elite playmaker does.
I've been wondering the same thing. Could be a nice simultaneous side deal for them with the space created by a Melo trade - especially if they pick up their veteran point guard in the trade.
Low Risk - high reward signing. If Morey can nab a steady combo guard with some size, experience, defense and close the Melo deal, this off season will have been damn near perfect.
Rockets Real Plus Minus Paul 7.92 (2nd) Harden 4.81 (13th) Nene 2.31 (45th) Ariza 1.93 (57th) Anderson 1.51 (71st) Tucker 1.09 (89th) Gordon 1.03 (91st) Moute 0.76 (107th)
Think this pretty much sets the team imo. I don't see any thing major needed to tell the truth. Interesting ball club. Let's Do It !
I don't doubt them being one of the best second unit. I still stand that if Gordon is hurt, that 2nd unit may struggle offensively. It may not be a problem because they will probably be shutting their opponents down.
But guys like Luc and Andre Roberson clearly suck, because basketball is all about scoring...? Even though every plus-minus metric out there suggests both are overwhemingly positive contributors, sometimes even more so than 20+ PPG scorers who are defensive sieves. I'm the first to remind people that yes, at the end of the day offensive talent > defensive talent (case in point : Harden), but don't underestimate the kind of impact that a truly elite defensive specialist can bring to his team (Bruce Bowen, Tony Allen, etc.)
I'm really going to enjoy playing the Spurs. I know they've added Gay but being able to have Ariza, Tucker and Mbah a Moute take turns playing D on Kawhi all night is going to be brutal and not so exhausting. Also, this should really help Ariza's shooting. He plays so many minutes it tends to fall off late in the year. We really ought to be able to manage his minutes better and keep him fresh.
i love this signing.... he and tucker playing on kd/klay... i love it but we still need a backup point guard and another big man. Any of these young players we have can be had... they won't ever reach melo level. Backup point guard option could be Ian Clark... then not much else that can shoot or play alongside cp3 or harden. Another big man could be Speights, Bass (both played with cp3 in LA since we all know he brought moute over). i'll throw afflalo in because we need a vet that can shoot in case gordon misses or cp3 because we all know they both will miss some games Cp3/Clark Harden/Gordon/Afflalo Ariza/Tucker/Moute Carmelo/Moute-Speights/Zhou Capela/Nene/Black
It would be fun to watch Harden run the Pick, Drive and Kick with Speights. Mo would probably be pretty wide open for three I imagine.
