Everyone values Alvarez. He isn't really a secret anymore. He is a fast track type prospect too. First base after yuli comes down to Alvarez and Adams (who also may be a fast track type).
Agreed - you tend to see and remember the failures a lot more than the successes. Sipp was outstanding in the 2015 playoffs - I don't know if that experience counts for anything today, but he's had a lot of success in the past in a high leverage role. Does Brad Hand really have any high leverage situations playing for a 38-50 Padres team? Has he ever pitched in meaningful games in his whole career? As Beard says above, there's a tendency to think the grass is always greener when you see your own guys fail, but don't really watch the other guys.
I'm sure it's been said, but with Pineda's injury you can expect the Yankees to try and over buy for a pitcher here. Let them do it.
Ok you are right, let's go trade sipp for a top 50 prospect. I mean he and hand are so similar, right? Of course I am being silly because no way Sipp would command that which proves my point. You and I both know they aren't comparable. Sipp is just not good. You will look back very soon and regret backing Sipp so hard lol. Team record has nothing to do with high leverage situations btw. We have 60 wins but our offense is so dominant that even we rarely see such situations.
Of course they aren't comparable. Sipp is not young, cheap, or club-controlled. He has far less trade value or long-term value to a team. But all that has very little to do with performance this year.
I'm still thinking Johnny Cueto could be a sneaky pickup. Giants are horrible and he's said he's opting out ASAP. He's not having a great year but he could just need a boost of energy. Could be relatively cheap, too.
I wonder if he will opt out after this yr. He's owed 21 mil per yr for '18, '19, '20 & '21 and in '22 there's a team option for '22 mil (with a 5 mil buyout). He'll be 32 next yr. He hasn't pitched well this yr. Will be interesting to see what he does.
Two other ToR SP on the market, $88M/4yrs is a big commitment for a 32 year old coming off a bad/mediocre year. Any team that trades for him needs to be prepared to own that whole contract.
It's been widely reported that he's planning to...though he would listen to an extension offer from the Giants. It's also been reported that he wants to come back to the AL.
Fulmer may actually be able to be had. I'm still not buying it but this is a pitcher of go ALL IN on. AL rookie of the Year and is pitching like an ace and is only 25. You don't find diamonds like this tradeable rarely ever. Not a free agent until 2022 but Arb eligible in 2019. Tucker, Martes, fill her up. Would be the perfect pickup along with Wilson. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/m...etroit-tigers-michael-fulmer-trade/477808001/
Word is deGrom may want out of NY. I'd probably throw the kitchen sink at him. Fans want to keep him of course, but I've seen some say they would be happy with a Martes, Fisher and Stubbs package.
Omg getting deGrom would be unbelievable!! Whatever it takes really. Need another SP pretty badly. We'd have three #1's under 30. Sign me up
