Abraham Toro hit a 2-run homer for Tri-City, his 4th of the season.

The blast came in the 9th to cut the ValleyCats' deficit to one run, but they couldn't quite complete a comeback from being down 7-2.

Any talk or reports on his play behind the plate or in the field?

I'm also interested in hearing about his defense. From looking at numbers (which is rarely ever a good thing, especially in the low minors... don't know why I still do it but whatever), he seems to be competent enough at 3B.

Looks like he's started 5 games at catcher; he hasn't committed an error behind the plate yet, but he's only thrown out 2 of 8 would-be base stealers. The majority of his playing time has come at 3B this year.

What is everyone's take on Ronnie Dawson? Guy clearly has power potential and is a good athlete, he isn't striking out a ton (about 1/4 ABs), so why is the average so low? Late bloomer from the cold midwest adjusting to better pitching?

Unfortunately I just think he's not as good as we hoped he'd be (although I didn't think he was worthy of a 2nd rd pick). There's nothing to indicate his low batting average is the result of bad luck. He is a middling bat limited to a corner outfield position. And to me I don't see more power coming.

Patrick Sandoval is making his Quad Cities debut.

Marcos Almonte, who's hit the wall in a big way as of late, just hit a 3-run homer, his 9th of the season.

Yeah, looks like May Almonte was fool's gold.

Cody Bohanek (30th round pick) hit a solo homer for Greeneville, his 3rd of the year.

Patrick Mathis (22nd round pick) followed with a grand slam for his first pro home run.

Cameron now has a 109 wRC+ for the season as a 20 year old in full season A ball. If his progression had been managed more conservatively (meaning not rushed to QC last year), this is what his track record would be:

106 wRC+ in Greeneville rookie league as an 18 year old.

    134 wRC+ in Tri-City low A as a 19 year old.

    109 wRC+ in QC A ball as a 20 year old.

I hope Cameron pans out. I think people are too quick to label him a bust due to being tied to Tucker when they came our the same draft. Cameron has a lot of swing and miss to his game, but I think he can make the majors in his own time (i.e. Not as fast as Tucker).

Thanks for providing the updates on Cameron.

You can't get much more dominant than that in a 2 inning debut. It validates the Astros picking him in the 2nd round as much as a GCL outing can.

What gets overlooked in this game is Venezuelan RHP, Nivaldo Rodriguez. This kid had a 0.35 era in the DSL this year and made his U.S. debut in the game with a 0.00 era in 4 IP. He isn't a heralded prospect, BA has nothing on him. But the political dangers in Venezuela may have kept the prospect hounds off his trail.

His numbers look good and the Astros have bumped him to the mainland quickly. He might be worth keeping an eye on.

Jake Rogers went 3-4 last night to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

With the huge strides he's made on offense coupled with his defensive reputation, he's probably one of the game's top prospects at catcher right now.
