And reverse it, if you shall. How many markets do players (tend to) gravitate towards? Lakes but not Clips, same town. NYK? Not so much these dazzze, and not Brooklyn (same town, different borough). Dubs (now) but not Wiz. C's now. Mavs/SAS? Great state but not calling card places. Heat? OK. But not Magic. Utes/Minny/Bucktown/Indy/Philly? You really have to show'm the $$$, eh JJ?

I posted this in the other thread regarding the Knicks pausing talks, but (to me) this isn't some negotiating tactic or them even seeing what the new GM wants to do. They know Melo's trade value and where he really wants to be (and where he'll waive is no trade clause). The Knicks can't do anything about it. He won't waive that clause unless he goes to the Rockets and they have to just accept the best they can muster up.

To me, this is just to save face to their fans. New GM is in place, put a story out in ESPN about how they want to talk with Melo and try to get him to stay and then, when the trade goes down, it looks like they had no choice but to trade him and get back what they could. This is just to put it all on Melo and him not wanting to be there anymore... he's the "bad guy". Trust me, once the trade happens, we'll see stories in the NY media quoting the Knicks' front office about how they wanted him there, wanted to build around him with the new GM but he wanted out no matter what and their hands were forced.

 

Or it's just the Knicks being the Knicks.

 

A very hopeful, but likely scenario.

I can't imagine them wanting Melo after the comments Mills made after the THJ signing. They want to get "younger and more unselfish"

No coming back from that.

Real threat of not getting Melo at this point would be buyout to Cavs.
