No offense but this is LaLa Land. The fact is the Knicks want more for Melo and were likely frustrated with complicated trade scenarios and think they can pull a power play to get Melo to expand his list of teams he'd be traded to.

And they probably said if that doesn't work out, negotiating a buyout is a better option that deal with what they'd have to do to get minimal assets in the Melo deal and the cap space with using the stretch provision would be better than the assets they are getting.

Also ... they have all summer. There is no rush to do the deal before training camp. They know what they can get and the Rockets offer won't change.

They are idiots who never should have progressed with serious trade talks with only two teams who had no desired assets to trade for him in a deal that made sense.

Learn from Danny Ainge and the Pierce/Garnett/BKN trade. Work quietly to get the best deal with the teams willing to pay for the player and then you go to the player to waive their no trade. Don't let the player determine the market.
