Just read the last last post of thread. Sorry if repeating info.

ORtg and DRtg can be deceptive from team to team. Systems and concepts as well as personnel around a
player can be different. Take those numbers with a grain of salt. Courtney Lee, Melo and now Porzingis are
on the record for disliking the Triangle Offense or atmosphere of the team.

Well Melo spent 34% of his team's PF mins (in 16/17) vs 28% of his team's SF mins at those positions.

Melo sported a PER of 22.6 at PF (thru 48-min projections)
Melo sported a PER of 16.4 at SF (thru 48-min projections) both good......Above average of 14

Meanwhile opposing PF's had a PER of 18.7 (thru 48-min projections). The Net shows Melo out-produced them.
Opposing SF's had a PER of 14.2 (thru 48-min projections). Net shows Melo out-produced his counterparts
    at both positions.

Ryno was .2 Net above his counterparts at PF. Negative at Center.
Dekker was a plus 2.3 Net as a SF (but only played there 4% of the Rockets mins at SF).
Dekker was a minus 4.8 Net as PF (played pretty much played all his mins there at PF)

Again Melo in a quicker faster Pace may kick up his numbers on offensive. So they would
be subject to change......hopefully for more of a positive.

So basically he's a high level power forward and a slightly above average small forward using per stats

Melo can can be Charles Barkley lite. He isn't a prototype body for a 4, and will never rebound as well as Barkley, but he's a better 3 point shooter and I think can be equally as good creating his own shot although better facing up than backing down. Neither will ever be known for their D but both are nasty enough to shove and push opponents around and be effective. AND I disliked them both when we played them but I'll like Melo when he gets here like I did with Barkley back in the day.

With the understanding that PER takes into account some stats that "many" feel are the more important stats.

Melo is better at PF than both Ryno/Dekker. (Individually not combined......although that might be the case)

For some reason NY used Melo more at PF than SF. Porzingis played PF 43% of the Knicks mins.

I'm not sure who else played SF with Melo. Substitutions have to be taken into consideration.

Noah was paid a lot of money to play center. Porzingis played 11% of his team's mins at a Center.
I didn't look at Hermangomez numbers at each position.

Carmelo is a 3 and will play the 3. When they want to go small, he will slide to the 4. I think part of the trade hangup is involving trevor,Clint or both. Capela because he's young and cheap, Trevor becuz his contract and he's a glue guy.

Feigen reported the rockets see melo as a 4

Edit: and dantoni wanted melo to be a 4 when he coached him in ny

Oh and Trevor ariza is not being traded

I added a little more to previous post (didn't note edit)

Good question. Basketball-reference,com formulates off of per 100 possessions (I believe).

Looking at two combatants in the finals. (Using 82games.com)
Draymond Green at PF had a PER of 18.6 (48-min projections)
His PF counterparts had a PER of 17.1 (48-min projections)
    That's a Net PER of 1.4 (PF's)

LeBron James at PF had a PER of 30.3 (48-min projections)
His counterparts at PF had a PER of 17.8 (48-min projections)
That's a Net PER at PF of 12.6 (Takes a village to tame that...........player......Ariza..Tucker...& Melo)

Edited: sorry basketball-reference.com has PER stat in Advanced stat section. And it's by the min according to their glossary.

Just to be clear; Dekker logging in at 4% of the Rocket's team mins at SF (according to 82games.com)
    "Production by Position."

Means that if the Rockets had logged 1000 mins (just for the sake of argument) for the season at Small Forward.

That would mean Dekker played 40 mins at SF for the season.

    4% of 1000 (mins) = 40 (mins)

I would argue that AI was a bigger star than Melo ever was.

And seriously people are arguing if Melo can fit in houston rockets offense? Melo is that good that any team he join, he can contribute offensively.

The question should be, will Melo be motivated enough to defer the ball the entire season? And by adding Melo how much closer it brings Rox to GSW, Cavs and Spurs.

I sure hope so, but I have my doubts. As someone earlier posted, by adding Melo, the offense is going to be even better, but basketball is not played on one side only.

If only Milsap is still available.

He will play stretch 4 in MDA system, doubt he sees much time at 3 with both Ariza and PJ on the team. It's not about traditional positions anymore, it's about the fit.

Melo at the 4 is actually pretty effective, especially with a 5 who can shoot. This gives Melo more opportunities for his deadly triple threat in a less clogged lane.

He can defend 4s for the most part. He doesn't get enough credit for how physical he plays.

Carmelo the NYC player is prob top 20-30 player.

Carmelo the team USA player as a PF is a top 10-15 player.

He is a matchup nightmare because there is no traditional PF that can punish him enough where Melo won't get twice as much on the other end. His offensive repertoire is that dominant.
