No we didnt. We had to match salaries. Still barely had enough. Did you want to invlude gordon or ariza? Because thats whats left. So sick of reading this uninformed bs.

If we get Melo without giving up Ariza, Capela, EG as widely rumored, our depth is great and we'll surely get a ring chaser with the vet min.

We didn't really trade for CP3, we had to clear salary no matter what. So the SnT was a fancy way to dump salary, while also giving CP3 the ability to sign a better deal with the rockets.

So I know we technically traded, it wasn't.

Undo message. I misunderstood you i thought the rumor you saw was that we were having to give one of those up but you meant the other way which matches to what i've read

I do understand the salary part so I partly agree with you.
However, I still don't understand including the 1st round pick next year. Bev, Lou, Dekker, and Harrell are all good pieces, whether they are bargain contracts, or young players (or both). We don't know what went down with the talks but I refuse to believe Clippers would have said no to the trade if that pick wasn't included. And I strongly believe that pick would go a long way in helping us facilitate a trade.

No offense, but the sources have not been credible on most of these details. Berman of the Post is considered a laughing stock in NY, and it sounds like Begley and others are getting their info from guys like Potato Head.

Woj has painted in broad strokes, but certainly is pointing towards caution on the deal getting done soon, and that conversations are ongoing.

I would be shocked if all three of Capela, Ariza, and EG are kept out of the deal honestly. Any team getting in on a 3 or 4 team deal is looking out for their own interests, and the only clear buyers in this case is the Rockets. So EVERY TEAM in the deal is looking to them to be the ones to give something up of value.

Keep that in mind here. I think its just as likely that the deal involves all of Ariza/EG/Capela and Anderson is not in the deal than it is that Anderson, expiring's and picks are only in the deal.

Ariza won't be in any deal. If EG is in deal, we're getting something greater than just Melo back.

Didn't know you were running the Knicks AND the Rockets front office. Guess the insider newsletter business has done well for you.

Not running anybody's front office. Ariza won't be in deal.....period.

    Neither will Terrence.

But we might throw yo mama in the deal after Doc Rocket turns loose of her hips. Ayo!

The only hurt was losing Bev who we more than made up for with CP3. Tucker is like 100000000000000% better than Dekker and Trez didn't even play in the playoffs. Losing Lou was meh for me. He did not gel that well with Ego (who struggled after we put Lou in the 2nd unit with him) and was wildly inconsistent. I personally don't think our depth was hurt at all. In fact, I think our depth got better after our offseason signings.

It's a fair point although I look at it like this: Bev/Dekker/Lou/Harrell had to be off the roster in any case to be able to sign Paul and finding a taker for all of those guys WITHOUT taking on any new salary would have been nearly impossible. So Bev/Dekker/Harrell/Lou/non-guaranteeds were a convenient exchange for Paul that helped both teams - otherwise Houston can't sign Paul and LAC can't acquire players on good contracts like that because the FA market is way more expensive.

I look at the draft pick(likely a late 1st rounder) as a trade for Paul's bird rights which for Morey is a type of insurance to make sure we have more leverage over signing Paul next year, meaning we didn't lose all that talent for a one year rental.

You may be right that we didn't have to include the pick, but the Clippers had the leverage in this instance because Paul's path to Houston would have been much harder without the Clippers cooperation. Plus you gotta think a 2018 first round from an NBA superteam is about as valuable as a 2nd rounder - and possibly in some ways less valuable to us because a guaranteed contract is attached to it which complicates FA acquisition when your up against the cap.

I don't refuse to believe it. We chose to expedite the trade so that we could make ourselves more attractive on July 1st. It also helped us stay above the cap to use pieces like the MLE to sign Tucker and bring Nene back. We wanted to go into next season above the cap, so this was the best way to do it. To get the clippers to play ball we had to add sweetener. See, you're looking at it as a deal where all we got was Paul, we also got them to make the whole thing move faster. The clippers could have played hardball and dragged the whole thing out as well.

The Knicks still haven't forgiven Morey for the poison pill that ended linsanity.

We gave up too much. Don't be surprised if another deal unfolds down the road between us and the Clips. (Brice Johnson come on down.)
