I think/hope there's a lot of posturing here, because something isn't adding up. Trades don't take weeks when all sides are motivated to move. At this point, if the Woj report is accurate, we're down to literally one contract (not Anderson) from Team 3 moving to Team 4. Beyond that, the structure is all there. This isn't advanced calculus.

Furthermore, from the Knicks end, trading Carmelo likely opens up ~$7M in cap room, and they reportedly would like to get back involved in this summer's FA market. There's incentive to get this done sooner rather than later.

But any trade can be constructed as technically a bunch of smaller trades. The media might report something as a single trade, but Morey can deal him in a blockbuster as a side-trade in a 1-for-1 fashion, or a 1-for-cash, or 1-for-pick. The rule simply states his salary cannot be aggregated for the purpose of salary matching.

Yeah if we are really a week away still from any resolution that is crazy. Especially if teams are actually offering to get involved like the report indicates.

All I can think of if that's true is that the framework is agreed upon but Houston and or NY are trying to seeing if there's a way to make it better.

 

I think NYK needs to realize their options here do not include getting young assets in return, considering Melo's no-trade clause limitations.

Just accept Ryno's contract as he's only horrible shooting in TC and the playoffs (sorry Ryno, numbers are what they are) so going to the Knicks solves both those concerns. Then try and trade him next year when the cap increases, making him a more acceptable contract to other teams. Shump/JR < Ryno.

He can't publically disclose that information or he will be fined. That's what was implied.

An example: framework agreed upon by New York says "hey, we have a deal but let's take some time to see if we cant' find some way to ship this guy out as well. If it doesn't work, ok, but let's at least try." Or Houston says "OK, we all have a deal but this might be our only trade because of the assets going out, let me see if I can't find a way to fold another piece in here I can use later." or New York says "let me see if we can find a cheap veteran PG to fold in somehow" etc. The deal is essentially done but teams want to use it as a way to expand to accomplish a secondary goal.
