1. In a recent podcast with Howard Beck, Mike D'Antoni says that the team will probably need to add another point guard and a big man that can enter the rotation when needed-- and these might be guys already on the roster or may need to be acquired, he'll see at Summer League. Which free agents will realistically accept such a 9th/10th man role at minimum salary? With neither minutes nor $ to offer, I don't see how any of the even moderately desirable free agents left will sign with Houston until much later in the process when they run out of all other options. 2. One thing to keep in mind about the BAE vs. Minimum: If a player signs in the middle of a season for the minimum, his salary gets pro-rated (so, let's say the minimum for him is $1.5M, and he signs 50% into the season, he only gets $750K). However, the BAE does not get prorated even if a player signs on, say, March 1, 2018. The BAE may be a useful tool to have in the buyout market later in the year. IIRC, one of the reasons why we got Josh Smith is that we offered the BAE rather than the minimum.
SPOT ON, all of this. That BAE will be good after the trade deadline and before the March 1st buyout date. Some rotation player vets could shake lose and that BAE deal + Rockets situation could be very attractive. Good info on Vet PG, Vet Big needed for 9th/10th spot. Might not fill those until around training camp time but I like that MDA is acknowledging that this team needs to play more than 8....at least in the regular season. ;-)
I wouldn't mind Javale Mcgee on a super cheap contract. He looked okay in spurts with last season with the Dubs.
David Nwaba just got waived by the Lakers for some reason, maybe to clear room for KCP. Anyways David Nwaba friggin rules hard and we should get him please. He has a knack for the ball, is super tough, plays way bigger than he is and a great athlete.
Melo threads have made the "Bargain Hunting" thread obsolete. In fact, had Morey registered and started this thread today, he'd be banned for Fake News
I hope we sign Deron Williams as a back up guard. I've said it before, but he fits what Morey has said about acquiring USA players. Also, Lebron James just posted this not too long ago. We all know they are boys.
Monta Ellis could be a sleeper for us. Adds 2 backup guards. Monta use to be automatic. http://m.espn.com/nba/playerstats?playerId=2751 For cheap why not
Keep an eye on Derrick Williams. He basically trains n does everything in Houston now. I can see him taking minimum to play here.
