The impression I got is that he's less likely to make a move. He mentioned not being particularly concerned about the regular season anymore. He's smart enough not to overreact to small sample sizes, so when he says "what kind of player do we need to beat Cleveland?", he probably realizes its a sort of silly question. He's basically saying "Cleveland-killers are far and few between, but if we can find one, we'll consider getting him" - but he knows there's no such thing as a Cleveland-killer, so it's setting him up to say we couldn't find anyone useful to help us beat those two teams specifically.

Why are so many posters denying the fact they LIKE massive HRs? We read the comments of amazement in game threads when they happen. I bet every poster who has commented about their "not caring" has "wow, he hit that far" posts. We all like power.

Just accept the fact Correa may have "barely" got HRs over the fence to begin his career. Then he got older, stronger, and better and his power improved.

    Not hard to understand

    Cause it may be true?

I dare you to find one post where I said that.

A double off the wall represents power too.

I think its silly to even discus whether a HR just barely clears the wall or goes 30 feet further. Now, if a guy hits the lights or literally sends it out of the park, that does catch my notice.

    Just my take.

I definitely think he's going to be as patient as possible. He knows they don't have to make a move to make the playoffs.

But sorta like he tried to solidify the team with the Gomez/Fiers trade in a year where they knew they had a good chance to make the playoffs (even though the Rangers ultimately caught them), I expect him to do the same this year.

Some of that may be impacted by what the injured pitchers are able to do before the trade deadline. If Keuchel comes back and reports no discmfort, if McHugh comes back and reports no discomfort, and LMJ/Morton continue to be healthy... the need for another starter does go way down. They can win bullpen games (even in the playoffs). They can hit good pitching, work counts, and get into another team's pen early enough.

If they do make a move... it will be more as insurance or in response to health/injury. The 98 Astros didn't have to get Randy Johnson... but doing so was absolutely the right sort of mentality. I don't think this team will shy away from that (if the price is not obscene... which it is less likely to be as teams do drop out of the race).

He's been pretty consistent throughout his career in the majors.

    Correa 2015 average distance - 398+
    Correa 2016 average distance - 404+
    Correa 2017 average distance - 402+

The naming convention and determination of "Just Enough" (i.e. barely clears) is what is kind of silly. Last year a 437 foot HR to dead center field at MMP would be classified as "Just Enough" while a 340 foot HR to the left field bleachers would be given a the more potent classification of "PL" (PLenty).

Negatively comparing the average HR distance of a guy with 20 HRs to players with one is also kind of silly.

It's not. You proved it twice in THIS response.
    You did in THIS response.
    Yeah.... we like power
It's no different than discussing an "off the wall" double vs one that's fielded short of the fence.

This doesn't mean "lesser" doubles are unacceptable. It means we like "more power" (Tool-Time).
    Yeah... we like power
One that totally rehashes my point.

To mention something or discus it doesn't mean I am "WOW" about it.

Do you not actually understand what the people are arguing about? Do you not understand how silly it is? I can't understand it for you.

Like most stats, this one deserves context. But the rules are the same for everyone and it's not hiding the fact a guy only has 1 or 2 HRs. Perhaps there should be a filter, but I don't mind seeing every player's production. The Astros ESPN site shows Centeno as the team leader in OPS. Are you appalled?

It just seems many posters are taking the stats personally, which leads to crazy statements about "not caring about power". Yeah, right. We're all sports fans here. Big and strong is the main name of the game.

I just don't see how anyone would use Correa's HR stats against him. And, if somone made the comment that Centeno was a better hitter than Correa (or Springer or Altuve or anyone on this team) based on a handful of at bats, then yes, I would be appalled at that assertion.

These game day threads go all over the place when the series is over. I thought blue bell couldn't make bad ice cream then I happened to try the coconut fudge flavor. It was not elite. Struck it out, after three spoonfuls.

I agree, however they should never have named them the way they did. Classifying a 440 foot HR as a "just enough" and seemingly treating a JE as a negative is the problem.
