Qi intentionally tanked tonight, as Morey doesn't want to include him in packages for Melo or Love.

It's all part of the masterplan, the missing pieces (Melo, Bron, Wade) are already inviting Qi to their banana boat and can't wait to take paycuts to be on a team with him.

Wow. If the thread was started by an Asian member I would understand. Otherwise this is utter sarcasm and insult.

Not sarcasm but definitely hyperbole. We were all just having a whole lot of fun with Zhou Qi's impressive Summer League debut. I think many of us expected him to look like a stiff and it was really fun and exciting to see he actually looks like he can one day contribute.

I have been holding back a little bit on Qi's comments over the weekend. Unlike many of you, I have seen him play quite a bit. The biggest knock is his strength. He gets pushed around in the paint too much and loses his position easily. I see we try to make him play 3/4 guarding people around the perimeter. That's a tough assignment for him. If he can somehow be effective in that role adequately, I think he will be a rotational player. I think he will be a project for a couple of years.

He does. And I don't think that will ever change. His frame is incapable of supporting sand in his pants.

He just has to rely on his length to block shots or grab/tip rebounds. That's not what you want from him, but for a late 2nd rounder playing for the minimum... could be worse.

All I know is, Joey better play tonight, and he better shoot, a lot.

It's funny though, I mean has there really been much hype about the kid?

There's been a shitload of complaining and negative commentary but no hype.

Also, the "Joe Chee" thing is somewhat derogatory and needs to evaporate.

I like the kid and wish him successful in this league. But ... he may bulk up his upper-body but check out his legs ... His legs are too skinny to support his frame. There is a reason he was a late 2nd round.
Besides his length, I think his mobility has to be plus in Dantoni's system. He could sprint back and forth for 6, 7 minutes in the quarter without looking fatigued (Yao would have been grabbing his knees after 3 min). On a few plays, I saw him leak out beating the opposing big on the floor.

How so? I'm open to rethinking it but struggling to see how it's derogatory. It's basically a pronunciation key. I hope this doesn't come across as sarcasm. I'm genuinely open to retiring my use of it if there is even a chance it's disrespectful to Zhou Qi or the Chinese community.

It isn't derogatory. It's just a way to spell it phonetically.

I love Joe Chee (for his value). And I might have even been the first one to use it on CF when I asked someone who claimed to speak Mandarin how Zhou Qi is pronounced. I'm sure someone can do a search on CF to see when it was first used and in what context.
