True, but you don't pay somebody $20 million just to stretch the floor. Gotta provide elsewhere, or they gotta provide more consistency. That's Ryno's downfall.
I think if the Rockets add Melo and subtract Anderson, they will lose more regular season games, but have a better chance in the postseason, and more importantly have a better chance of getting LeBron next summer
So the year that we signed Ryno and Ego, which stretch 4 out of the bigs that were available would you have signed? Durant already decided not to join us after Dwight helped us **** the bed the previous year. It's easy to complain about things in hindsight or in a vacuum.
Apples and oranges. Capela can provide rim protection, rebounding, and easy points in the paint. Ryan can shoot if his shot is on... that's pretty much it. No defense, minimal rebounding, and softness in the paint.
Orlando just cut Watson and his non guaranteed contract, now they have basically 20M in cap space...fwiw.
It is not apples and oranges. It is about fit. A stretch 4 next to a player like Capela who offers zero range is highly valuable in our offense. That's why we have shown interest in bigs that have range (Bosh, Anderson, Illynova or however you spell his name, Ibaka, Griffin, Melo etc). With Capela, our interior is half clogged. Adding another big with limited range hurts Harden far more than a lack of D from that position.
There has never been any hindsight or in a vacuum analysis on Ryno's contract. It was a bad value contract the moment it was signed, and still is. Doesn't mean he's some scrub, because he wasn't, and he remains a solid fit on the team, but you can't tell me you'd rather have 3 more years of Ryno than the 20 million in cap space. He just isn't as valuable as alternatives.
Trade talks are still 100% going on. Branching out into 4 team trades to find someone to take Leonard and send an asset to NY.
Well, I'm still waiting for the good news, but decided to start drinking the Costa Rican cervezas already, because I am impatient and hate to waste a good day just waiting for a reason to celebrate today. Beer just sounded good lounging at this remote beach away from the tourists while keeping up with my Clutch Fans posts.
His contract was not bad value given the projected rise in salary cap at the time. It wasn't good value either, but to call it bad at the time is a bit exaggerated IMO. Durant joining GSW's superteam really screwed us over in this regard. I would love to have Ryno's 20M back in our present time as we could use it towards signing Millsap or Ibaka. However, hindsight is still hindsight. With last year's projections, we would have had a much easier time flipping his contract. We say he is not as valuable as the alternative, but that's with us looking at our situation NOW. This is the very definition of hindsight. Last offseason, he was a valuable alternative compared to what options were available for us after a very mediocre and damaging season.
Get Dallas on the horn... don't they have like $17M in space? + they could send JJ Barea or Devin Harris to NYK to mentor their rookie PG Give Dallas the right to swap picks with NYK in 2018 for taking on Leonard's contract + future POR 2nd + future HOU 2nd
I have a hard time thinking there's a team willing to take Leonard and also send back an asset to get him but eh, never say never i guess...
