we have a solid 8 man rotation when all 8 are healthy. if we trade ryno+NG bros for melo then that 8 is probably good enough to take the warriors to 5 or 6 games. depth will be a key since nene, ryno (if hes still here), ego, and paul have all been injury prone. we need a backup PG for when paul misses games. if you think james will just start at PG, then who's backing him up when paul is out? we need bepth there. same for center behind nene. i think after the melo trade i'd try to land some of these guys for the vet min. most are unlikely but you never know who wants to join a super team. we might get lucky: CENTER : pau, dedmon, baynes, mcgee, bogut, reed, udoh, hibbert, tarik, thomas robinson, joel anthony STRETCH 4: speights, jerebko, beesley, tolliver, scola, jan vesely WING: miles, allen, sefalosha, vince, aflalo, james jones (lebron recruiter) PG: dwill, jennings, sergio rodriguez, stuckey, mack, udrih
Horrible thread! As it currently stands the bench rotation is quite good. Gordon (plays all the backup G minutes) 6th man of the year aka best bench player in the NBA. Tucker (plays the backup F minutes). Excellent wing defender who can stick the 3 like anyone. Nene (plays the backup C minutes). What needs be said?? Harden will play PG when Paul sits. Taylor is fine as a 3rd string point guard. Summer has only just begun, we have BAE still plus vet min to dish out for depth guys. Chill.
need to make robert brown an assistant coach or something so we can use that roster spot for an actual backup point guard
I think Nene, Tucker and Gordon will eat up more than 80% of the bench minutes. I'm assuming Qi or Onuaku will take Nene's backup minutes. IMO you sign a vet min back court guy, and fill out the rest with the best of our young guys. I would like to sustain this thing seeing as 2 of our top 3 guys would be close to their mid 30's.
Harden is the backup point guard My god, what do you not understand about either cp3 or harden on the floor at all times ? If one misses a game, Eric Gordon slides into shooting guard. We have a better bench vs GS than we did last year simply by adding versatile defender tucker over lou Williams. OP your posts have have ridiculously uneducated and naive. Read More, Post Less Livingston -James Harden (him or CP3 always on floor at pg) Nick Young- Eric Gordon McCaw- (FA vet signing) or Isiah Taylor if we dont ship his NGD out Iguodala- PJ Tucker Casspi - Troy Williams Bell - Zhou Qi Looney- Onuaku West- Nene nick young??? seriously you are bragging about them having nick effin young? The warriors are the deepest team in the league. We are chasing that. We werent even close starting lineup wise to catch them last year. We had to revamp that first, and still managed to get a solid bench piece in tucker and improved our roster. Looks like we only need 1 bench guard to round out the roster and probably will add another backup 4 type player with a vet min. So no big deal. Your panic post is pointless. You should be much more concerned about facing the warriors starters.
each SL game looks more and more like taylor will have a chance at that 4th guard spot. unless there's a ring chasing PG out there like dwill, jennings or stuckey who might sign for the vet min, i think i go with youth (which we suddenly need a lot more of) and speed in taylor as the 4th guard. assume paul misses 15 games, harden and ego start in the backcourt. maybe they both play 36 minutes in those games. i think taylor and troy can back them up for 12 minutes each. no big deal. if ego misses time since he's injury prone, i think harden and paul play their usual minutes while troy takes ego's minutes. should be fine. however, the front court needs help. if we have melo he may sit for rest due to age. if we have ryno, he might miss time because he's injury prone. we can't get away with ariza or tucker at the 4 full time. that 4th forward (second PF) spot is crucial. qi, hartenstein, and nanu aren't ready. we need a vet stretch 4 here. i like speights here for his toughness and championship experience. another front court depth issue is nene insurance. he may not play on back to backs and may also get injured for stretches. we need a rim protecting, rebounding, alley-oop dunking center with size preferably. we may not find all of that in one player for the vet min, but there are some decent options out there. bogut is too injury prone to cover for an injury prone player, and mcgee, reed, and dedmon probably goes back to their teams for the vet min or more... but i like thomas robinson. he's an elite rebounder and very athletic for finishing lobs. doesn't have the size, and is not known as a rim protector, but he's elite in 2/4 things we need.
likely Gordon, Tucker and Nene ...and others i'm not worried about our bench; Morey always seems to fill out the roster with quality players. Plus MDA doesn't really play more than 8 guys anyway. More interested in nailing down our core.
Lmao with what money? Anyways stop trying to match us up an eye for an eye with the warriors... yes we know how good they are... and there's a reason. It's not just as simple as, "well the warriors have a,b, and c" we need that too. Since that's the case after melo comes who's going to be our 4th star?
I agree with you in general, but would sign a vet to compete with Taylor for that 4th guard spot. In my eyes - and people may not agree - we're going for the trophy. There are enough roster spots to create mini competitions between vets and young guys. I would pursue that strategy throughout, for Troy vs vet, Taylor vs vet. We have to be assume injuries.
I never liked TR's game much, but ironically when I looked at the previous list I was thinking the same thing. He's only 26 as well and maybe working with the Dream and Lucas would help him improve his weaknesses. However, we definitely could use his rebounding and energy as an end of bench guy and to give Nene a breather. Another guy I think would be great to add is Afflalo, he can give us another vet shooter/defender. With that said, the big deal has to consummate or not before we fill out the rest of the team. I like we've kept our BAE in reserve to see how things play out.
i agree with this, i just think taylor will win out vs whatever PG is left for the vet min right now, unless its dwill or jennings. i think i see the depth chart like this: capela-nene-vet-nanu ryno(melo)-vet-qi ariza-tucker harden-ego-troy paul-taylor-vet
We have a 10 man roster. Need a 5/4 backup, an athletic wing, and vet backup guard. Reed, Troy, Barbosa, Afflalo, Taylor should round out our 15 with Chinu, Taylor, Qi going to the vipes
Really like what i've seen from Taylor over these two games; last night he showed he can contribute as a scorer, not just a play-maker. I think he could develop nicely behind Chris Paul. If he continues to play at a high level throughout camp and preseason, I think you pencil him in as the 3rd PG behind CP3 and Harden
Yall are acting like veterans are not going to want to come here on vet minimums. There's going to be a line of players to choose from to fill out this roster. That's the ez part. I bet Morey already has his list ready and he's already got commitments from people.
