Harkless is not negative value. A 1st round pick is not negative value. Cap space isn't that valuable if you are just going to spend it on the likes of Tim Hardaway Jr, who btw is a worse player than Anderson. NY is a cesspool right now where no one who has options wants to go to.

Not speaking to this situation specifically (or characterizing Ryan as "trash") -- but it seems a lot of people don't understand the concept of cap space sometimes being preferable to taking trash just to say you got something back. Somebody argued me down on Twitter yesterday that Doc would 1000% have taken a far lesser package for CP3 because he had no leverage and couldn't afford to lose him for nothing. Like, that isn't how this works.
Dude, this is seriously not Rocket science. Leonard is a $10m/ year bad contract. Its not the end of the world. You take him, and get assets in Harkless and a 1st. That is better than getting nothing while Melo walks.
Harkless is at best zero value contract if not slightly negative. Maybe you can get dump his contract with a second rounder if you are lucky and a team wants him.
Yeah, all of these posters who think we're going to land Melo for Ryno in a straight up deal are potato heads. That said, I don't think we have a zero chance of landing him. There is always a chance he could pick us once he's bought out but I still think Cleveland will be his first choice.
You act like Melo is some budding 22 year old superstar. He is 33 and a known chucker. There is only about a handful of teams that would even want him on their team. And there is exactly 2 teams he even will allow the Knicks to trade him to. News flash: Melo is a bad contract - because you can't get **** for him.

Why the heck are people calling Harkless a bad contract? He has upside, is a decent two way player on a modest contract, and can shoot the 3 decently? You can work with a guy like that. He's a more complex package than Hardaway Jr.
That is NOT a bad contract. LOL A bad contract is a contract that requires you to give up value to trade off your team. Anderson is a bad contract. Caroll is a bad contract Noah is a bad contract Asik is a bad contract Meyers Leonard is a bad contract Harkless is a slightly bad contract. Turner is a bad contract and so on and so on. A potential expiring like Carmelo even if he was unplayable is NOT a bad contract. Not to mention that he can actually play. Few teams? LOL. Almost every team in the league would love to have an expiring Carmelo at his salary by trading off their bad contracts like Anderson, and 100% teams in the league would love to have him at vet min.
Yes, I think he will consider Cleveland first if he agrees to a buyout. But I believe he wants a S/T, or to stay in NY, instead of that.
