It's looking more like everything will be linked to Avengers going forward, even the standalone projects such as Black Panther and Ant-Man.

Everything building up towards the Infinity War series, obviously. Glad to hear good reviews cause all these Andrew Garfield fanboys ******** on Tom Holland without giving him a shot was getting on my nerves.

All of this is good news. Hopefully when I drag wifey to it she'll be happy. "Captain America Civil War" left her scratching her head too much, as in, "Why are the good guys fighting each other?" (Her English is good but it isn't her first language, so I don't know how much my explanations helped her cut through the comic-book-nerd nuances.)

Didn't know there were any Andrew Garfield fanboys. He wasn't very good IMO.

However, when Tom Holland was announced, I threw my hands up in the air in disappointment. But he did well in Civil War and these comments on Homecoming are very encouraging. He can grow into the role.

    Glad to be wrong, again!

Me neither! Until they announced and showed up with Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man in Civil War. Everyone was up in arms cause they thought (up to that point I guess) Andrew Garfield had the best portrayal of Peter Parker as Spidey.

You haven't seen this mess posted before?

I have the similar problems with my wife as well. We end up going to Spanish dub/subtitle theater in Pasadena so she can understand.

I can't comment how well Tom Holland did because it was dubbed in Spanish but the dubbing was excellent :D.

Yeah, when my wife first got here, we wanted to see "Inception". She thought of going to the theater in Pasadena (Spanish being closer to Portuguese than English). But "Inception" didn't last long at that theater. I don't think it was a hit with the Pasadena audience. My wife liked it anyway, pretty much getting the idea. Now that her English is stronger, I think the concept of "Civil War" was more confusing than the words: "explain it to me all you want, I think it's a flimsy premise to hang a movie on."

Spider-Man should go over better. It's simpler, and we'll get to see New York, which we just visited (including the Staten Island ferry, which apparently plays part of a big scene, going by what I saw in the trailers).

Watched spiderman 15 years ago, is hollywood incapable of writing something new?

Still gonna watch it because they stopped making AAA movies.

Fun movie. Best Peter Parker yet. Too much Avengers for my taste.

Finally a movie that truly captures the teenage angst, quirky humor, and unwavering optimism of Spider-Man.

Tom Holland strikes the perfect balance between the nerdy high schooler and the young vigilante yearning for adventure. His performance is what makes the movie so enjoyable. Also, the supporting cast is excellent including Keaton, Tomei, and Zendaya who steals almost every scene she is in until her big reveal at the end.

Overall, I really enjoyed this version of Spider-Man, which was as and fun and colorful as the comics I read as a kid.

    9/10.

    Some thoughts...

    1. I think Tony Stark is going to die in the near future in the MCU or at least that's how Robert Downey Jr.'s character will be written out since he has publicly said that he would like to move on to do other projects. The whole father/son dynamic with Between Tony and Peter is ripe for tragedy. Tony alludes to it several times with reference to his own father and tells Peter to become something greater. Also, Remember this version of Spidey has no uncle Ben, which is paramount to Peter taking on the full responsibilities of a vigilante. I feel Tony is there to fill those shoes as mentor and father-figure to guide Peter until tragedy strikes.

    2. The reveal of Zendaya aka Michelle as "M.J." at the end was pretty clever. Her character will be a great way to ground Peter in the absurdity of his life as Spider-Man. She is a no nonsense type of character who could challenge Peter at every turn unlike his previous movie love interests.

    3. I have feeling Sony is gonna screw up everything they've built with Marvel Studios. The stupid Sony execs are already saying that Venom and all future spinoffs will not take in the MCU -- meaning they will go back to their stupid idea of creating their own separate universe inside the MCU. We know major villains like Donald Glover's Prowler and Michael Mando's Scorpion are in the works. Don't be surprised if this becomes a huge cash grab from here. I have no faith in Sony.

Saw a preview for this on tv. The action scenes looked like a cartoon. Almost Roger Rabbit style.

You haven't seen the movie. It doesn't look anything like a cartoon. Guardians 2 was cartoony at times, however.

I just watched the preview again and, to me at least, all the action scenes with him in the suit do have a cartoon-like feel to them and Spider-Man feels like a live action cartoon character. So, I agree with TheFreak. I want to see the film to see it all and then decide if it was too cartoony for my tastes.

Really enjoyed it, glad the fate of the world wasn't at stake for a change.

Absolutely hated the "MJ" reveal, hated it just about as much as I have hated anything involved in the MCU. That character is not Mary Jane, and I'm not talking about her not being a white red head. If they wanted to make Mary Jane black, fine, but to literally change everything about her personality and background, then give her a famous name pisses me off, it's bothering me much more than it should. I would probably love the character if she were just a new love interest created for the MCU.

I was rooting for the vulture. He was just trying to feed his family. Stark was selling weapons too. Micheal Keaton was just doing the same thing. Peter fed up his GF family too.

Regarding your spoiler, I'm in the same boat. I'm surprised there isn't more outrage over this?

In my opinion she's going to blossom. They have to give Peter a reason why he didn't notice her before. In the next one I bet she's going to be totally different. You could see she had an underlying persona that is bursting to come out.

    The name change to Michelle.
