Well Boston does have other options. But they could value the Utah 1st more so than what's available. Utah could easily flop with rubio and maybe Boston banks on that. Utah top3 protected 1st and Hayward SnT for Avery and crowder? Could be a sneaky ainge move
@malakas is right Doing a sign and trade to Utah is stupid for Boston if they aren't getting anything out of Utah in the deal. They could easily trade crowder to a team with cap space or a team with non guaranteeds (like the rockets!) and get a draft pick. Heck, even a second would be better than getting nothing for crowder. Keep in mind if they do a sign and trade they aren't getting Hayward for crowder. Hayward has already agreed to sign there. They just need to clear cap space and there's no reason they can't get an asset in the process. But @malakas maybe there is something to the deal with crowder behind the scenes that makes them want to move him otherwise I don't get why they don't keep him
Here's the thing: Crowder has value. Good player. Really small contract for 3 seasons. If I were Ainge, I ask for a pick or some other asset from Utah as a part of the deal. I do it because there should be another team that would offer Ainge an asset (plus no additional money) for Crowder. The issues is, though, if Utah were to give up an additional asset in such a transaction, the optics to their fanbase would probably be bad. I say f the optics, but then again I don't run a team in Utah and don't have to talk to the Utah season ticket holders.
Is that really true though? What teams have: 1) Cap or expirings as to where they send no salary back 2) A need for Crowder 3) A spare 1st
Yeah, I don't see a team getting jacked for their free agent and coming off a 1st so his new team can clear room to get him. Try selling that to the fans.
I don't know right now exactly the cap situation of everty team because with all the moves I have lost track, but for example I would rather if I was Washington have Crowder and let Porter go. And throw them my first. Or if I was Charlotte I would throw them my first. They can't get back expiring but they can get back a small salary like 2-3 million.
Porter is a star on offense. Unless you think he's going to regress, no way you let him go for crowder
An obvious move to me is rockets. Non guaranteeds + Take your pick of 2nd round picks and hartenstein Or 2020 first round pick top 5 protected Would throw in onuaku as well to get deal done which gives her a big man they need to develop
With beal and wall do they need porter's offence? Plus if you have Crowder who will cost like 20 million per less for the next 3 years, you can also have him as a pf and Oubre as sf. More flexibillity too.
Honestly Washington can't think like that. They aren't going to be flexible and they aren't going to attract a star free agent. They should keep porter and hope he gets even better that's the only way they can contend
yeah u're probably right. It's too bad I don't see them keeping Wall. Anyway..very interested to see what Ainge is planning to do with his next years' salary. Having 4/5 starters being paid 20 +million is crazy.
If I don't have a choice and I value Crowder and his cap hit enough, then yeah of course. Is not like the Jazz have a choice to keep Hayward.
They can get a #1. Crowder has legitimate value. I firmly believe the Rockets would give up a #1 for him to solve their SF issue post Ariza. Crowder is under contract for years, defends and hits 40% on 3's.
I'm very eager to see what danny gets for crowder.... I know he has to have a lot of teams calling, I say at 1st at min. then he has to be ready to trade for another star soon
