Like most around here I am hanging out for news of that 3rd star walking in the door, but it is worth remembering that the trade deadline is a LONG way off, and some of our 'assets' will gain value between now and then. Sure, I would love to trade Anderson for Carmello right away, and if it somehow happens before the year starts I will be jumping for joy. But it is worth noting that Andersons value increases as time goes on. His cotract length is shorter every day, and when he starts hitting shots again (he will), he becomes a lot more appealing as a stretch 4. Worst case we go into the season with what we currently have - which is essentially the same core as last season, but upgradim Bev/Lou for Chris Paul and Dekker for PJ Tucker. Those are some nice upgrades! We have 2 legitimate lead guards in a guard friendly league, and an excellent 3rd guard. We have 3 legitimate 3 and D guys in a league that covets 3 and D guys. We have 2 serviceable bigs who offer some rim protection and don't clog the lane on offence. Perfect for todays centre. We have a stretch 4. We have the best 6th man in basketball. Really, the lineup as it currently stands is a Durant/ Curry season ending injury from being a legitimate contender. Ok, we need the 3rd star guy to really make a splash, but it will be easier to get someone who requests a trade to Houston and when Anderson has been bombing 3s to give him value. Worst case is that we go into the season with what we have, win a LOT of games and give Morey more trade power. Players get disgruntled all the time. If we can't make the move before the year starts it doesn't mean we think we can win with what we have, it means we couldn't reasonably upgrade. (I am still hanging out for the Anthony move, but our worst case isn't all that bad is it?)
We have the old New Orleans Hornets squad with Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson, Trevor Ariza and Chris Paul
For an unfinished team, we have a solid balance of star power and depth... we should be very optimistic moving forward this yr
Lots of balance, lots of good players. I think Gordon is the wildcard. That said, I would like to have someone on the wings that could create offense for themselves. Here is my artistic take on "what we currently have" lol Spoiler [/spoiler
we have 2 old geezers as our designated wing defenders a vastly overpaid starting pf a superstar who cant take his game to the next level i nthe playoffs a star pg who's in his last years an inexperienced starting center backed up by a corpse an injury prone 6th man who plays too much given his injury history a coach who loves to run his players into the ground before even thinkgin about using more of his bench a decent deep bench that rots a fat ass gm that wont give me any free cheeseburgers or krispy kremes an owner who has a weird laugh, prolly a demon and we're in a division thats been the strongest division for whta seems like forever didnt know this thread was serious. im joking but its kinda true.
lol. we have literally absorbed New Orleans; like invasion of the body snatchers. Or maybe it's more like Alien. We lodged ourselves in their throat, laid some eggs, and they hatched, obliterating the franchise, only to be reconstituted in a new and improved form.
where we have issues and can improve: at positions 1-4 we'll continue to have trouble vs teams with long, athletic defenders. at point guard we need a backup who can defend the waterbug patty mills types. at small forward we need someone who can dribble and finish at the basket. and at center we'll struggle against size on both ends of the floor. injuries are also almost inevitable for cp3, gordon, nene and anderson.
