really is a very unique situation where nobody seems to have any leverage lol.

Rockets stuck with ryno and no picks so little leverage.

Melo under contract for 2 years so little leverage.

Melo has a no trade clause though so the Knicks have little leverage.

Cavs arent exactly in control of the situation either but they might be the most because kevin love going to a 3rd team might create the assets new york wants.

We will see but nobody is in control right now. We are deadlocked. The only thing that forces actions in these types of situations are deadlines.

What deadlinea should we be looking at?

The day our non guaranteeda become guaranteed is the 1st deadline to keep an eye on I believe

Every first rounder 2019 forward per Daryl.
but they can't trade that one so 2020 is first available...I think.

    2020, 2022, 2024, 2026, 2028.... should i keep going!??!

The Rockets should have kept their first rounder in the CP3 trade, it would have helped tremendously. We didnt really have to trade it... we could have kept it... they werent really in a position of power.

Right, 2020 first we can trade. Morey is smarter than me obviously, but there's no chance I would trade the 2020 pick or god forbid one even later in any deal for Melo, or really any one that wasn't a young, locked up star. Too much risk.

If for some reason Harden/Paul flops and clash together and he walks or trading for Melo tanks everything, I don't want to be Brooklyn looking at owing a pick to someone that is in the top 5.

They want a future first rounder it needs to be top 10 protected.

Na... Brooklyn didnt have Harden on their squad... our picks will be in the 20s as long as the bread is at the helm....

I'd give them every pick until Melos contract ran out

You only get one opportunity at this. Chris Paul isn't getting younger and neither is harden

Can't we trade next years pick if it's 1-3 I'd. If it goes to the clippers (obviously) and then it resets to the year after and I guess you protect it top 5 or unprotected just to push the deal through with Ryno. Maybe throw in the 2nd round pick we got from Memphis and the rights to Sergio lull.

I mean if we're going all in and to me the players we signed and traded for make me think were going all in. You have to overpay to get melo at all cost.

Clearly Ryno is the only rotation guy that can go out but every other draft pick and or rights to any young player they can have other than Qi who I assume is here for more than basketball reasons.

    Harden
    Cp3
    Melo
    Gordon

Thats an insanely talented offensive big 4 all 4 of those guys can go off for 20+ points any game.

Harden and cp3 can get you 10+ assist any game.

Melo can take over stretches with 8-10 point runs by himself in under 3 minutes.

    That's the compete package

And I haven't even mentioned Capelas growth and playing off all 4 guys or Ariza and tucker having more energy to guard elite wings all night and be fresh because they can take turns or nene and cp3 running that old man pick and roll to death against second units.

Morey needs to make this happen asap imo.

Just get it done sacrafice the ability o make other moves, you have cp3 and harden. Adding melo with the other 4 guys is def good enough to beat golden state.

Might not be favored but we can beat them with that team in sure of that.

It's enough scoring and just enough defense to keep up.

The 2020 pick might actually be more valuable than the 2018 one...

Agree, give them the right to swap picks in 2019 and a top 3 protected 1st round pick in 2020.

The first one you can even trade them is the one the year AFTER Melo's contract runs out.

Ever seen a game of chicken? That's basically where we are at right now. The trade kicker is only leverage if Rockets bid against the Cavs seeing as Melo is only not exercising the TK for us and Cavs. At that point, it would be if Cavs are willing to trade Love this time around. What Morey has potentially done by saying we will sit on our "TPE" is this; here is what we are willing to give at this time until you have until X, then Y, and finally Z times to make a decision, but each milestone makes this worth less and less.

As I am not an insider, my guess is that we offered Anderson + 6M of "TPE" as giving up either Ariza and/or Gordon is likely not on the table. This way, they get $6M of immediate cap relief plus the ability to trade away a 20M EC next year. In the meanwhile, they get a good stretch 4 to play off Porzingis who finally gets to be "the man" of the Knicks franchise. On NYK's side, they are probably going "We want Ego/Ariza/Capela too if you want us to take Anderson". Of course Morey would be like "**** no!" to that. So here we are. :D

Would it? Most think he will choose cleveland. But then again we got josh smith because we had the most $$$ to offer when he got bought out.

Is that what morey plans to use the bi annual on? We all know melo likes his $$$

Could we offer more than cleveland?
