Here are the lines for some of the notable names from last year's IFA class after their first month (and few days of their second month) as professional baseball players:

    SS Deury Carrasco (DSL Orange, signed for $480K): 22 games, .309/.462/.412, 7 RBI, 15 R, 21 BB, 17 K, 10 SB (3 CS)
    2B Jeury Castillo (DSL Orange, signed for $400K): 18 games, .151/.226/.283, 1 HR, 11 RBI, 7 R, 5 BB, 18 K, 6 SB
    SS Freudis Nova (DSL Orange, signed for $1.2 million): 12 games, .326/.473/.419, HR, 7 RBI, 13 R, 9 BB, 5 K, 2 SB (2 CS)
    SS Yorbin Ceuta (DSL Blue, signed for $1 million): 22 games, .213/.314/.236, 7 RBI, 13 R, 10 BB (2 IBB), 14 K, 5 SB (4 CS)

    RHP Angel Macuare (DSL Blue, signed for $695K): 5 appearances (4 starts), 1-1, 4.05 ERA, 13.1 IP, 15 H, 10 R (6 ER), 8 BB, 17 K, 1.73 WHIP, .273 opponent average
    RHP Jairo Solis (DSL Orange, signed for $450K): 5 appearances (4 starts), 1-1, 2.08 ERA, 21.2 IP, 11 H (2 HR allowed), 8 R (5 ER), 6 BB, 24 K, 0.78 WHIP, .151 opponent average

I'd be more than fine if Houstons top 10 prospect list coming out of the deadline looked like:

    1. Tucker
    2. Whitley
    3. Bukauskas
    4. Paulino
    5. Alvarez
    6. Moran
    7. C Perez
    8. Nova
    9. Rogers
    10. E Rodriguez

That would mean Martes, Fisher, F Perez, Davis, and Teoscar would all be gone.

Hector Perez should be in the top 10. Heck, I think he should be there right now. Last time I checked Hector was leading all of minor league baseball in Swg Strike %. That was about 2-3 weeks ago and continues to rack up the Ks since. Baseball America had him at #16 organization preseason rankings. All he has done is improved upon that. Read somewhere that one evaluator has his slider graded out as a future double-plus offering. Saw a couple occasions on milbtv where he showed 4 potential plus offerings. Fastball touched upper 90's sitting mid 90's, curve ball has 12/6 depth, slider of course is great and even his change up occasionally looks really good. Control is his biggest issue and with time should get better with experience. Probably will be in AA by the end of the summer and just turned 21.

    DONT TRADE FRANKLIN PEREZ

He is going to be star, our best pitching prospect IMO

I really like him as well but you can make a strong case that Whitley is our best pitching prospect. The Astros apparently value Whitley more than Perez if you believe Ken Rosenthal. I hope they don't trade either but I could swallow one being traded if it brings in a high quality MLB pitcher.

Josh Rojas is off to a pretty quick start to his pro career, hitting his 2nd homer for Quad Cities. He was drafted in the 26th round out of Hawaii last month.

Hard to argue much with that. Perez is a really, really good prospect and could easily fit as high as 6 on that hypothetical list I posted.

Speaking of Whitley, quite the debut at High-A so far.

    4 perfect innings, 7 strikeouts

Carmen Benedetti is currently 4-4 with a couple of doubles, 2 RBI, and a run scored for Quad Cities.

Rosado allowed a run for the first time this season in his MWL debut. 4.1 IP, 2 H (solo HR allowed), ER, 6 K

So... that's 14.1 IP, 3 H (solo HR allowed), ER, BB, 19 K in his first 3 appearances this season.

Whitley has to be right up there with F. Perez and Martes as our top pitching prospects. To be doing what he's doing at just 19 years old should put him in the top 50 of most prospect lists heading into next season. Props to Luhnow and Co. for being all over this kid going into last season' draft.

He's really f'ing good. Martes, Whitley, and Perez is probably the best trio of pitching prospects in baseball outside of Atlanta's group.

On a similar note, Armenteros has thrown four scoreless so far in his Fresno debut. Dope.

Stassi with 2 HR tonight. I'm a broken record on this, but he's going to make somebody a really good backup catcher. I was surprised nobody claimed him when he was DFA earlier this year.

There are a few pitchers with unsightly ERAs who I think are actually having good seasons. All of these guys have better than 3:1 k:bb ratios at their current level:

    McCurry
    Smith
    West
    Thornton
    Guduan
    Emanuel
    E Sandoval
