Among 8 seasons with Denver, Carmelo led his team in Win Shares only ONCE. WTF? Even I didn't expect that.

You will NEVER see players of LeBron, Durant, Westbrook, Harden, Curry, CP3 caliber not lead his team in these kind of stats, as it is the measure of how many total wins has the player contributed throughout the whole season. This is why I say Carmelo is NOT an elite player. Elite scorer? sure. But Carmelo is just a better version of Jamal Crawford.

Even if we get Melo we still need to find a way to replace Ariza. He is so horrible offensively.

Who cares about regular season minutes. In the playoffs, EGo, Harden and Paul will be on the court together for 20- 24 mpg. And we still could add another sniper guard for minor minutes...and injury insurance.

I like Tucker, but I hope we didnt promise him major minutes like Fiegen alludes to.

I agree with what you say about no correlation. I guess I'm more responding to Feigen implying Tucker expects major minutes, when a heavy three guard lineup with Harden in there at "SF", is already cutting into Feigen's math more than Melo vs Anderson will, as you point out.

    Exactly.

He has thrived in off-ball complimentary roles in the past. Look more at Team USA Melo and less at disgruntled, ball-stopping NYK Melo, who has played with just one All-Star over the last 7 years (Tyson). He's hungrier than ever and a move to a winning environment flush with other respected vets would work wonders for his game and his rep.

If Melo is willing to play full-time power forward, he would be a beast down there. When Amare was out Melo was unstoppable down low as a 4.

If we acquire Melo, what are the chances that the team falls apart because Harden does a "Derek Fisher" (or "Tony Parker") on La La?

I have a feeling CP3, the perfectionist, is going to get very frustrated with Melo throughout the season.

yes its a given. the argument of just putting all the blame on others as the reason why a player isn't winning isn't valid. If you're the best player and you show absolutely no signs of winning you just aren't that type of player. Melo at this stage of his career is not good enough to be your best player on a winning team. No idea why people are even trying to argue otherwise. it's actually crystal clear to me and I don't see why thats such a big deal. Trying to say hes even elite might be even worse.

if he's elite to you then you're telling us he is in the exact same category as harden, lebron, kd, curry, kawhi, westbrook.

I really think Tucker could play the 4 pretty well in spurts thanks to his rebounding depending on matchups. His versatility will allow him to play 25 minutes a game easily.

Smith: Melo in red? Be careful, Rockets

Can Chris Paul take James Harden farther than Dwight Howard ever did?

We have all next season to figure that out.

And what if you add one of the NBA's most conflicted (and misunderstood?) stars to the Rockets' current two point guard mix? What then?

One ball for three gold medal-winning Olympians? One common, united goal for two of the league's premier players and a 14-year veteran who's worn out his welcome in the only two pro cities he's called home.

I normally prefer to leave hypothetical Twitter trades to sports' fantasy land. But this free agency period has been even crazier than last year's – which saw Kevin Durant discard Oklahoma City for the allure of The Bay on July 4. And Carmelo Anthony is now willing to waive his no-trade clause for two teams, according to ESPN. One of those is run by a King and has a permanent castle in the Finals. The other suddenly features a shared kingdom jointly ruled by The Beard and CP3, and is still trying to erase the semifinals stink from Game 6.

Harden, Paul and Melo: That's one heckuva superstar trio ... a few years ago.

Harden is better than ever and now has to carry less weight than ever before, thanks to his new international sidekick. Paul is still very, very good, despite all the shortcomings and turmoil in Los Angeles the last few years.

    Anthony?

There's no bigger question mark in the game.

And for that reason (among many) the Rockets should be very careful as they weigh their immediate and long-term futures versus the unbeatable superpower from Oakland.

As is, this isn't a great Rockets team right now. To "steal" Paul from the Clippers, general manager Daryl Morey had to give up about 18 ex-Rockets, including the team's best defender (long live Wolverine) and multiple 3-point options.

As is, these Rockets aren't overcoming the Warriors and will again have to fight to be a top-three team in the West.

But Eric Gordon, Clint Capela, Nene, Ryan Anderson, Trevor Ariza, P.J. Tucker, Harden and Paul clearly form a home-court advantage eight-man rotation right now. And Morey has always excelled at adding complementary pieces around his stars – last year was the strongest proof to date.

There's some serious irony in the Rockets again flirting with Anthony, just a few years after he was briefly handed Jeremy Lin's red No. 7.

There are season tickets and new jerseys ready for the masses if Melo gives the Rockets their own Big Three.

Anthony also turned 33 in May and spent the last few years residing in the NBA's version of hell.

In a perfect world, he plays his butt off for Mike D'Antoni this time around and the 2017-18 Rockets unleash an even sharper offensive attack than last year's.

In the real world, ball movement, defense, chemistry and a whole lot more will be questioned the moment that Anthony puts on red.

    Be careful, Rockets.

You and everyone else in the Association want to discover some way to overcome the unbeatable Warriors. But one false move, and you're just chasing old ghosts.

Agreed. I think he'll get thrown out there a lot with three other guards and in lineups where you're not really sure what his position is. Melo or no Melo, really hope MDA ends up with 9-10 guys he feels comfortable playing on the regular to keep everyone's minutes down this year.
