Melo's numbers are NOT elite. What stat are you looking at? Only points per game? I'm sorry to tell you that Melo's advanced stats suck, even the ones during his prime. Not once in his career did Melo had the impact on his team that came close to the likes of LeBron, Durant, Harden, CP3, Westbrook, Curry, etc.

Before teaming up with Iverson, Melo had Chauncey Billups, Nene (when he was a monster), Ty Lawson, Kenyon Martin, J.R. Smith, etc. as his teammates and still couldn't make it work. He had George Karl and MDA - two of the finest coaches in the league - and still couldn't make it work.

Is Porzingis still up for trade discussion or did that go away when Phil Jackson left the Knicks organization?

Legitimately yes. We will have all his buddies except for DWade. I honestly think the biggest obstacle would be cap space

The Knicks sucked before Melo got there. They will suck after. How many head coaches have they had in the last 5 years? GM's? They just fired Phil Jackson after 2 seasons. Before you question if Carmelo's a winner, how about you question the organization he's playing for. Ppl said similar things about Josh Smith before he got there, "loser", "chucker", "selfish", then he ended up leading us to one of the best playoff performances EVER against the LAC. Seems like the same ppl who were against getting Smoove are now saying the SAME thing about Melo.

When you have Chauncey Billups, Allen Iverson, Nene, Ty Lawson, Kenyon Martin, J.R. Smith and George Karl as your head coach, and still couldn't make it work, then you are a LOSER.

Jonathan is great, but that paragraph is odd. If the Rockets enter the season as-is, Tucker would be the primary backup to Ryan Anderson at PF (and also Trevor Ariza at SF)... and if they trade for Carmelo, he'd also be the primary backup to Carmelo Anthony at PF (and Ariza at SF). Nothing much changes for PJ. Carmelo might play a few more minutes per game than Ryan would, but Ryan averaged 30 mpg last season -- let's not act like an additional 4 or 5 minutes for the PF starter completely changes the complexion of Tucker's proposed role.

Ah, my memory has failed me then.

Still, he's probably somewhere in between our perceptions of him? Top 15 ain't bad.

the knicks enjoyed a 54-28 with melo 5 years ago. that shows some + impact but since then its gone downhill with him. if you supposedly add an elite player to your team, it's supposed to show atleast something. that's the real effect of adding a truly elite player. aside from that one season it hasn't in a total of a 7 year span

that performance in game 6 in no absolute way change who JS is as a player. Definitely doesn't for me. and obviously the league feels the same way cause he can't even get on a team

Melo's numbers last year were at starter level. As a secondary option he will likely have lower counting stats at higher efficiency. His catch snd shoot numbers are great but he didn't get many looks last year. He will get a lot more in Houston, boosting efficiency

Good thing we're looking at Melo as a #3 star then, and not as a franchise cornerstone.

Yeah and idk how the cap would work out lol. But if it came down to it do you trade away harden to make it work? Idk if I would do that knowing how good has been to this organization

Saying that Melo's stats, advanced or otherwise, suck, likely won't convert a MOFA ("Melo Only FAn") because MOFAs are convinced that:

    1) Melo has been fat and unmotivated in NY so his recent stats don't show his true value
    2) Melo also has thus far refused to play his best position, PF, in NY, but in Houston he'll change his mind and it'll make a difference.
    3) CP3, as Melo's bff and Houston's new resident taskmaster, will make sure Melo stays in line
    4) Melo has been a loser his whole career and wants to change his legacy, and finally, most important:
    5) Olympic Melo is still lurking somewhere in there. 2016 wasn't that long ago, and showed just how devastatingly effective a motivated, Power Forwarding, superstar teaming up Melo can be. Melo has always been the man, but more than a whole bunch of other stars, would benefit from playing with other superstar passers.

That's what I'm saying. I'm perfectly happy with Melo as a 3rd option, but no need to sugarcoat what we're getting. Just a talented scorer and nothing else. That itself would be an upgrade over Ryno, which is why I welcome the trade.
