Just to clarify my position, even tho it's a clear no brainer to me that we get Melo over anyone else, if Love is attained it's a good pick up. I'll be a little bummed we didn't land Melo but Love is still a nice add.
So here's a proposal that works for everyone. http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y7w8nu8j Houston: Kevin Love, Courtney Lee, Iman Shumpert Rockets get a huge upgrade from Anderson with Love who can defend, rebound, and shoot threes. Also, he gives us another great pick and roll partner for Harden and Paul which is key to the success of D'Antoni's offense. Meanwhile, Lee is a similar high percentage shooter to Gordon and should excel in D'Antoni's offense. Lastly, losing Ariza is tough, but Shumpert is the pill we swallow in order to dump Ryno, if only for a year because Shumpert has a player option in 2018 and will be looking to get paid. Also, I'm sure Morey could figure out creative ways to flip Shumpert for picks if needed. Cleveland: Carmelo Anthony, Ryan Anderson, Joakim Noah LeBron gets his banana boat shipmate Melo. Meanwhile, Anderson is still a great one-dimensional shooter who might be a better fit in the Cavs iso heavy offense as a spot-up shooter. Thompson for Noah is the pill Cavs have to swallow in this deal. Who knows maybe Noah gets back to his previous form now that his role will be clearly defined as primarily a rebounder and defender. New York: Tristan Thompson, Eric Gordon, Trevor Ariza, Channing Frye, non-guaranteed fillers Knicks rid themselves of all their bad contracts at once. Thompson and Gordon are great pickups reasonably priced for 3 years giving the Knicks the option to field a competitive lineup around Porzingis and Ntilikina while they develop, or both can be traded elsewhere for quality picks if desired. Ariza and Frye are both expiring contracts saving the Knicks $15 million per season or the equivalent of the Noah contract, which is a win for any GM.
Neither Melo or Love are good defenders, but Melo is quicker laterally. Melo's issue is he doesn't care about defense, like Harden. Love's is he simply isn't athletic enough. One of those can be improved, one can't. Kevin Love is a 20-25 minute a game guy against the Warriors and getting a max salary. Want no part of him at that price, and especially if it costs Capela, who would be needed to cover Love's defensive weaknesses.
Trading Gordon, Ariza and Anderson for Love, Shumpert and Lee does not move the needle against Golden State. Ariza is the rockets best defensive option on KD, and neither Shumpert, Lee or Tucker are tall enough to bother KD's shot. Also, how many games in the finals do you need to see that Kevin Love is a liability against Golden State and has to have his role reduced against them? He can't guard any Warrior when they use their small ball lineup of death. Let Cleveland be stuck with Kevin Love. They should've moved heaven and earth to get the three way for Paul George with Denver on draft day done.
Welp with Milsap and everybody else gone, these two our only hope. Happy to take either, really hoping we get one of em.
Melo just rubs me the wrong way. And Melo demands the ball. Can't have three guys doing the same thing in the same lineup. Love is what we hoped Anderson would be.
It is? I dont see us being linked to Love at all...but I've heard us linked to Melo and he has at least visited our facilities in the past. I dont want Kevin Love anyways.
Love is the ideal fit on this Rockets team. He doesn't really need the ball in his hands but can hit the open 3s and has a nice post up game as well.
love. the rest of the team is getting kinda old. i also think he's the better player right now, and it won't even be close in a year or two.
Love is the better fit on paper.... but man he's really just a more rounded out Ryno with worse shooting... Melo is prolific scorer... but realistically at his age he's gonna keep declining hard. With CP3 though, age isn't as much of a factor. If any of our three stars (if we end up with Love or Melo) dry up then the contention window closes anyway.
I agree that Love makes the most sense on paper, but I feel like he never solidified his role next to Lebron and Kyrie. All why playing a not quite identical yet similar style to what we should expect now with CP3 and James. His rebounding is more than welcome, but I'm not overly confident that he can come here and be what he should've been in Cleveland. If there's a reasonable deal to be made, costing Anderson and not much more, I say do it. He's better than Anderson, so I see no reason why Morey shouldn't be more than willing to swap them out. Just have to find a team that wants Anderson and construct a deal that ships him there and helps Cleveland rid themselves of Love. Not at all a meager task.
Am I the only one who had watched GS state beat Kyrie/Lebron/Love twice now, and basically got swept this year? Swapping Anderson for Love is basically counter productive. We would basically take the cavs trash and gift wrap Melo for them. It's weird that CP3 and Lebron are fighting for Melo but clutchfans prefer Love over Melo. I think Melo is a lot more versatile on offense. Melo could play a bigger role than love. With CP3/Harden/Melo I guarantee MDA will stagger the minutes to where at least 2 of them is on the floor at the same time, which is prefer than just Love with his basic offense I don't think Morey will allow Melo to go to the cavs. Morey is in win now mode and sending Melo to the cavs could really hurt our chances of winning a ring. I promise Morey is not gonna waste or risk losing with CP3/Harden on the team CP3=Curry Harden>Klay Melo=Durant(I know Durant is better) Ariza=Green Capella>whoever Is a lot better and versatile team than Ariza<Durant Love<Green
If we're able to aquire either one & keep Gordon we will make an appearance in the conference finals at the very least.
Lol at people who think Love would be better than Melo. CP3, Lebron, Harden, Ariza, are all fighting and pushing for Melo. That should tell you nobody thinks Kevin love is gonna help you win a ring. I've seen Kyrie/Lebron/Love get their ass whooped twice by GS and basically swept this year. Why would we want him? The fact that the cavs and lebron want Melo over Love should tell you something of who provided the best chance to win
Melo the better player, but Love fits the team better. Last poll, I voted for Blake instead of CP3 for the same reason, and if this meant rox is getting melo? I have no problem with it.
