morey has changed over the past decade. or even a couple of years.

like others have suggested, he apprecaites what culture can bring to a team after the whole dwight scenario. i'm not sure he makes the paul trade a couple years ago, he would have held his "assets" and kept cap flexibility and not taken a risk on an older player.

i mean this is purely anecdotal, but i feel since he has been around the game for a good time now, he can see the hidden intangibles off wining and what it means to put a good basketball team together. i'm sure we can find a recent interview and compare it to an older one and really see the difference.

TLDR: Morey has become older and wiser and....more human

Yep, I think I became a rockets fan around 2004 (when I was 12/13) and I fell in love with this site. Didn't have the balls to start posting until a few years ago haha

Ha, I feel you. That's great. I got on here around 1998, I believe and signed up and never said anything. Then Clutch changed the name of the site (it was clutchcity.com back then [I was agrockets back then]) and I didn't feel like posting for a few years. Everyone trashing Eddie Griffin woke me up, been posting ever since. Fantastic site with tons of fun history. I can't imagine how we'll all be if we win the big one. It would be new posting territory.

This is hilarious looking at all the green lights (indicates that you're on the site right now) by everyone's name. We get up for free agency around here.

just to clarify... not advocating the scenario - previous poster asked how we could have been a FA player for CP3.... Ryno/PBev/Lou/nonguarantees/1st is the answer to the question....

I understand your view on CP3... and i agree he is a great player... I however disagree that that is the best allocation of our resources given our previous configuration....

I figure our best case scenario was 2 stars... I'd rather have 1 in front court and 1 in backcourt (Harden)

Harden/PBev/Ego imo was a solid enough 3 guard rotation...

Turning Ryno, Lou, nonguarantees, and future 1st into a better front court player would have been my play...

You're not a fan of Griffin - i understand... it woulda been a tremendous gamble, but given potential upside - i'd have done it.... 4 years younger and cheaper max deal than CP3...
    Milsap - same age/max contract as CP3...

If DM can manage to pull Melo without losing capela or ego... then his route was the better play... imo...

The funny part is how many are rah rah Melo at this point - lol...

A month ago virtually nobody wanted him - period. I saw 1 person who wanted Melo... everybody else was "Do Not want" "cancer" ""No, due to history with MDA ..." etc.... Now that many of those other pie in the sky dreams are gone all of sudden everybody thinks he would be a solid addition... lol.

The Rockets now have $108M in guaranteed contracts after the Nene three-year, $11M contract. The Rockets are $10.9 below the luxury tax with 10 players on guaranteed contracts. Houston is subject to the hard cap rule based on the signing of PJ Tucker and will not be allowed to exceed the $125M tax apron. - Bobby Marks

Rockets now at 10 players and $109 million dollars in salary leaving us about $16-$17 million before the apron.

Have to fill 4 more roster slots with talent.

Rockets still have full BAE and their $11 million dollar NGteed TPE to round out the roster.

The market for Millsap is drying up quick and the Rockets can look to pounce for say.... $25 million a year in a sign and trade?

I would rather have Melo.....and would rather trade for him.... butttttt

Best case scenario, S&T for Millsap, and hope Melo gets bought out and comes to the Rockets. 2 birds 1 stone.

To matchup with GS you need flexibility. Upgrading Bev, Lou and Dekker to CP3 and tucker makes us much more versitile. CP3 also is getting our foot in the door to other FA. Look at how he already got Tucker to take less to come here

have we finalized the tucker deal though? I thought nothing in the NBA is finalized yet. He could be a Sign and Trade and still we would have the full MLE left

This is true.. but Raptors will have to be willing to play ball, but the agreement has been made since yday and no word so not likely...

Even if we S&T that will still trigger the hard cap and cannot exceed $125 Million dollars.

Very very happy with offseason so far, bringing back Nene, adding Tucker and Paul, bringing over Zhou Qi(I guess it's pronounced Joe Chee).

So does anyone know what Nene's starting salary would be?

yeah but we would be allowed to use the space on a good player

we got ariza the same way. We reached an agreement, then a few days later it turned into a 3 team deal to rid the asik contract

What does this even mean ?

How can we not go above the 125 mil , but GS can exceed it by 50 mil ?

GS can resign their own players. Bird Rights exception. GS cant do much with any FA. They are severely restricted in what they can do

I.E. what the rockets plan to do going over next year with paul. Create space. Sign another big star. Go over the cap with paul.

GS Will also though be paying a huge luxury tax bill in a couple years. 9 figure luxury tax. Saw a report an estimated 125-150 million in tax alone on top of the 150 million payroll theyve created

They have not engaged in using their MLE or sign and traded for a player to trigger the hard cap.

They are still subject to the massive tax bill, but they are working with a soft cap because they havent pressed those triggers.

Rockets can go over the apron only if 1) they don't use the non-tax MLE ($8.4M) and the BAE ($3.2M) and 2) don't acquire any player via sign and trade. Instead, they can only trade for players already under contract and sign free agents using the tax MLE ($5.2M starting, up to 3 years).

Don't think it's worth it avoiding going over the hard cap. This would be not acquiring any incoming FA making more than $5.2M.
