He could play with a better team and a friend in either Cleveland or Houston.

 

Melo won't take that much of a dive/dip late in his career. He'll go from the first largest city to the third without hesitation. Plus, Melo knows Maury almost as well as Batman Jones. LOL

Melo can't play and guard every position.

 

Ideally he actually can due to his size and athleticism. He's like a KD of Lebron in that respect. He's big enough to play/guard a PF or C and obviously already plays like a PG/SG/SF. I'm not saying he's the best defender in the world I'm just saying his body type and skills allow him to if needed and I'm also not saying he would play PG or C, but on switched etc etc he's more versatile then majority of players

I have the same reservations about Melo as everyone else, but if Morey/D'Antoni/Harden/CP3 want him, hard to argue with that

 

Yeah we need to hope Hayward goes to Boston. If not I think Ainge will put something together for Melo. (He might do that even if they get Hayward, but I think it's less likely.)

If he really wants to play with CP3 or LeBron and thinks it can happen if Boston isn't an option, it's very possible.

Raptors get some nice shooting in Ryno. Lance Thomas is pretty good and they'll get some picks.

Knicks get JV as a front court piece next to Porzingis. Still pretty young. Also get Corey Joesph.

Rockets get Melo.

 

By the way, this is where it helps so much having a star like CP3 who is also good friends with Melo. (And you know Morey is keeping Chris apprised of negotiations.) Anthony might approve a trade to Boston in a vacuum, since in theory, it's not far from NY and a solid organization. But if he prefers Houston, and he knows there's a possibility of it working out if Boston isn't in the picture, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what he should do. As BJ would say, Carmelo has his rights.

 

Yeah I think LeBron in Boston is not happening. Paul in Boston is possible but unlikely.

So if Melo's thinking is he has to play with one of those two then I suppose we can say Boston probably* ain't happening.

But even if that's the case I think "nobody wants to be in Boston" is wrong.

Why wouldn't you want to go there? By all accounts I've heard, Stevens is a great coach. And they're young and a top 3 team in the East. It would be a great place to go for almost anyone in the NBA.

It would be nice to see Melo take leverage away from the Knicks and say out loud that he would like to be a Rocket.

 

How do you know he hasn't already said it?

 

So let's say Melo is bought out of his current deal. What's the likely scenario that he signs with us for the vet minimum? I think not very. At the very least, the BAE will need to be used.

If he accepts the BAE, we S&T with Toronto for PJ, we should go in and steal Pau Gasol from SA for the MLE
