He doesn't replace EGO or Ryan. Please don't forget that we lost Lou and Dekker, both guys who played significant minutes.
There was a post where I put 3 videos here; game one against the cavs, game 4 against them, and another defensive video
I think he is saying we would of been over the cap signing CP3. This would cause us to not have our MLE.
I always liked PJ Tucker, but 4 years for a guy who is already 32 makes me nervous. Especially since we might be looking at giving a 33 year old CP3 a five year max deal next year and we already have one of the least tradeable contracts in the league in Ryan Anderson. I'm sure they're going to be bringing Nene back for 3 years too. That's a decent amount of cap room tied up in guys at or above the age of 32. And we're also looking at Melo who is 32. I'm a little afraid of being the 2013-2014 Nets. Looks great on paper but then age catches up with half your roster all at once.
First time poster. Hey everyone. Love this move on its own, but I don't think we can effectively analyze it without seeing what Morey does next. All of his moves are connected. Morey is selling a vision to these guys. CP3 chose Houston over SA even though on the face of things, SA was the better choice to win now. PJ took significantly less money to sign here when he had other suitors that valued him highly. Morey is painting a picture for these guys that clearly has them excited enough for where the franchise is headed to pick Houston over other options. PJ isn't the last move Morey will make. We may see in hindsight that this move is even better once we see where the team ends up. And it might be next year before we see the whole plan come together. We're really lucky to be Rocket's fans when so many other teams have poor front office management. Morey is elite. D'Antoni is elite. Alexander is willing to spend whatever it takes. 90% of NBA franchises would switch places with us if they could. We should enjoy this while it lasts.
You have the right idea but I'd put Tucker on Klay. If the Warriors go small, Harden on Iguodala, Capela on Green. If they are playing a traditional center, Harden on Green, Capela on the center.
Welcome! I think a lot of this has to do with playoff incentives. Players actually do get paid more when they win, IIRC. It might not be the difference maker, but If Tucker has 4 years of winning, the contract difference may be less pronounced.
Does this mean Ariza may be gone in a package for Melo/Sap? PJ Tucker is basically an Ariza replacement at this point.
While I agree that Morey never does anything without a plan, what actually transpires isn't necessary his version "A" vision. Having a vision doesn't necessarily mean all works out as planned. As I imagine it, Morey knows this also and has contingencies built in. In other words, he maybe after A, B & C players, but has X, Y & Z waiting in wings if any of those doesn't work out. In a nutshell, what we actually see may or may not be Morey's original vision. This said, I am not contradicting what you said, but adding to it.
