I'd prefer milsap over both but between Love and Melo And Love I would go Love just because I think he'd fit better with less maneuvering. If you go Love you don't have to worry about Ariza or Melo being work down trying to rebound against and guard opposing 4's. If you get Love he can match up against starting 4's and easily play some small ball 5. Don't have to worry about guys constantly being overmatched and overworked guarding bigger players. But I wouldn't be upset with Melo. I'd be pretty pumped. But Capela would have even more pressure on him defensively and rebounding. Offensively with Melo we'd be pretty devastating though.
Look if it came down to it. I'd want kevin love. It is obvious he is being under utilized in cleveland. They aren't space and pacing. They are making Love sit in a corner while two others play iso ball aka James and irving. Love is a better passer than melo and is extremly under rated. If james harden kicks off running on the offensive end after love rebounds which he is better than melo at... he has the ability to pass that ball cross court. With two great passers and a better system i can see Love doing alot better here than in cleveland. Love has also proven to be a Willing passer and doesn't need to be the man. Now do I really want either of them... NO! They would be a great 4th star for cheap but not the Third star that we had to rely on to really move the needle. If we were talking about would we rather have Anthony Davis or Boogie.. now that would be a tough one. I don't see either Melo or Kevin Love really having the ability to do much against a younger Goldenstate that defends as well as they do. Especially since they got a guy like Draymond on their team. If we got Boogie who can bruise Draymond and outmuscle him... or Anthony Davis who is just unstoppable with his finese then that needle would move.
Millsap right now maybe the most underrated player in the league. He is probably as good as 2 way player anyone not named Anthony Davis as a big man. He is just a monster but sadly it seems he wants to join the Timberwolves
When it comes to the playoffs, talent rises above all (you saw all that crazy shot making the finals), and you have to be able to create your own shot because defenses will turn up. Kevin Love is a spot up 3 point shooter now really. He has an above average post game (overrated IMO, dude can really only turn to his right), and that's neutralized if (when) he goes up against Draymond. I do agree that Love has championship pedigree though; when his shot was off, he was doing a lot of little things to help Cleveland compete. On the other hand, you have Melo - the guy everyone used to consider the best scorer in the game before KD. You run a CP3 or Harden pick-and-roll with Melo, and you have a mismatch no matter what. Against any team. You aren't stopping GS's offense with either Melo nor Love. Only real benefit for Love is rebounding. Your best shot against GS is probably to slow down the pace, and get good quality shots yourself. You don't want GS leaking out, getting transition 3's, etc. Our offense w/ Melo would be unfair (good offense always helps out your defense - just ask the Spurs when they played us). Plus playoff Melo (when he actually had a team and went to the WCF) was filthy. I expect more of the same if he was on our team. As for the upside... you can have games where Melo just goes bonkers and wins you the game. Love maybe in a blue moon can do that, but certainly not against Draymond. Anyways.. with that said, I don't think we're on GS level with just one of them lol. You'd have to get another star, have an extremely deep bench, and a versatile big. At minimum...
It's been reported that the Timberwolves are out of the Milsap race. For what it's worth Codman is dropping some cod-hints about him coming to the Rockets. I'm not as high on him as you are lol, but i'd love him here.
Melo is a better player overall. Minny Love would be good, Cavs love not so great but still an upgrade. I'm hoping for Team USA Melo.
I've moved my opinion to the center. I remember playoff Melo. It was long time ago, but I remember playoff Melo...
I don't think you ever have to worry about our offense going stagnant when you add Melo. You would if you had Love. Anytime Bron wasn't on the floor, even with Kyrie and Love, it was pretty bad.
Tust me this guy is a monster and if by some means possible we can get him him then we are set up front.
Dude ive met Beverly and his given me a signed jersey and a jersey to wear on the reg so stfu If bev was on this team he say put your balls on the table or shut the **** up The next 5 years will be run by 3-4 super teams and we are behind okc and the wolves now Go all in or sit on the fuvking sideline
I don't want Melo on this team, I'm no Nostradamus, but I think he'd stink here and be a detriment to the team. Give me love if these are our choices. Plus Melo is old, he's just going to get worse. Love still has peak years in him, he's just marginalised on the Cavs
I think that was coaching more than Love being ineffectual though. When Lebron was off the court, Love and Kyrie were running the same plays as if Lebron was still out there; Love was still at the 3 point line. When Lebron was off the court I don't think Love and Kyrie worked well together because it was the Kyrie show and Kyrie is not a PG to get Love involved. I agree with what you are saying with the Rockets offense with Melo. I'm also a believer in "game-breaker ability" (the ability to take over and win games single-handily) and Melo has it more than Love. Some one needs to draft a pros and cons chart!
Melo brings more offensive upside, more mismatches, more shot making when offenses bog down in the playoffs. I have no concerns over ball stopping or friction with D'antoni. The ball will be in CP3 or Harden's hands 90% of the time and he will only touch it when he is in position to score. He had problems with D'antoni in the past because the offense ran through him, now it will be through CP3. Problem with Melo is it will be hard to cover for two defensive liabilities in the lineup with him and Harden. Love is younger and the overall better player right now. Your championship window is extended since both Harden and Love are sitll in their 20s. Once CP3 is done in 4 years you can retool for one last go instead of completely blowing it up. Another upside to Love is he can be your small ball 5. We couldn't really run that with Ryno because we got killed on the boards. What makes Love unique is not only is he an outside threat, he is an elite rebounder so you can get away with him at the 5. But problem is once again going to be defense. The player we need is Millsap. He is the closest in the league to Draymond type. A little less defense(still great), less passing(still very good), better scoring. With CP3 and Harden our top level talent is equal to the Warriors, yeah that's right. CP3 is as good as Durant, and Harden is as good as Steph(when Steph is taking a backseat because of Durant). You add Millsap and the overall talent level gets very, very close. GS still gets the benefit because they are proven, but I would go to war with our squad. Unlike Love or Melo, with Millsap our lineup will have NO weaknesses. CP3, Ariza, Tucker and Millsap will be surrounding Harden and covering for his defense, while the offense will be at an elite level at all times since we will have one of the best creators on the court always. A small ball death lineup of CP3 Harden Ariza Tucker Millsap matches up perfectly with GS positionally and talent-wise. Not one of the choices. Not sure if it's possible to get him, but Millsap is who we need.
I agree with that. Love wasn't really put in a position to succeed. Regardless, it's still a tough matchup for him, and Melo put in the same position would have resulted in a better outcome IMO. If Love was this elite offensive rebounder, my tune would change. One of GS's biggest weaknesses IMO and why they worked so hard to make TT irrelevant after he killed them in the previous finals. The problem with Love as your small ball 5 is the playoffs (GS) which is why I don't see it as a positive other than the regular season. He'll get neutralized so easily by Draymond. And to echo the sentiments of others, yes Millsap is a better fit. I agree he's underrated and is honestly a poor man's Draymond, but he's not putting you over the top. In today's NBA he's gonna have to be your fourth best player unless your 1/2 are Bron and KD. And to that, I hope we can nab him by trading Ryno somehow and hope Melo forces a buyout. CP3 Harden Ariza Melo Millsap I'd cry tears of joy...dat versatility...
Melo just because Harden and CP3 will create a lot of scoring opportunities for him. But I wouldn't be mad if we get Love.
