Happens every year man! Panic sets in when other teams sign players. They come out saying Morey is dumb cause he didn't give that player the money. It never stops. We are fans, we have no clue what deals are being discussed and what teams are asking for in trades. What we do know is our GM is a pretty smart guy and typically won't get us in bad deals. We don't have a ton of cap space so we have to wait on a trade to materialize.

 

Feigen confirmed my theory, they are hedging on iggy with this trade rumor. If iggy says no they do this deal

 

The complaining in here is hilarious. This is why we have so many old heads in here preaching to these miscreants to watch more basketball. The future of the league is 3&d versatile players Shump is that. He's not trash and he doesn't suck, he's not the same lockdown defender he was before he tore his acl but he's still good enough to hold Klay Thompson six points below his average in the finals. At the deadline there was rumors that we were trading Bev for Shump, in this deal Morey would basically be getting him for nothing. There are legit reasons to not be pleased. Yes, we did grab Chris Paul, Great. Can still not be satisfied and for good reason. Last year's Shumpert for Bev trade would have been sh* t and getting him tomorrow would be sh * t. Some of this bitterness is brought on the team itself. "We're not done dealing" "We've got something up our sleeves"

Obviously some were hoping for more than Shumpert after the build up

That's actually a fair argument. Morey has been posturing as though he's going all in to make bold moves. CP3 was a bold move but as you've noted, that while that might improve us over last year, it doesn't make us legit competition with the likes of the Warriors. So if the goal is to compete with them, we haven't done enough.

Having said that though, we're less than 24 hours into FA and we don't know what remains. Just because a Shump deal is being talked about (along with a host of other lesser names), that doesn't mean Morey isn't in play for other names that can help us get to contention. If Morey is painting a masterpiece, we only have one part of the canvas revealed. After alls said and done, if it look more like paint by number than it does a jackson pollock than there's reason for dissatisfaction.

but dude, we have literally nothing to trade of value and anyone that could really help us is being picked up already or not affordable. I don't see how we're gonna add anyone more than players worth the exceptions which you and I both know aren't going to help much. Anyone worth value that was being traded away for mediocre assets has already been traded.

 

I like this deal a lot.

The typical boneheads on this board are busy dreaming about top flight free agents when we have no cap space left and think that a trade exception is some kind of magic pixie dust Morey can sprinkle to get whatever he wants.

Shumpert is a typical Morey move: $10 million controlled salary with a player option next year. That's how you use artificially created cap space wisely, not by chasing Millsap for the max.

Upgrading the wing position is an excellent offseason priority. Don't judge Shumpert simply from his role in Cleveland where the wing spot was dominated by LeBron. In Houston, Ariza and Shumpert will be great together.

I endorse this move.

 

There is a lot of talk. This is a defensive move, and one that gives us some more athleticism. I'm not betting on it though.

What I'm hearing is that Shump is involved more as a means to an end. He needs to be included to move everyone to their correct location. In a sense, he could be our "fall" contract.

I'm not hearing TOO much noise on this though, which leads me to believe it's a bit early to worry.

MDA is a fan, that part is accurate.

The Cavs want Melo, but unless they unload Love and JR, I see issues. Melo and JR had a falling out...but it's not public. They are civil, but there are hard, hard feelings that go deep into George Karl realms.
