Think it's less about lining up pieces and more about making sure that better options aren't available. Shumpert is fine — capable bench rotation guy, decent contract, potential salary filler down the road without dramatically altering your rotation. That said, in an ideal world, obviously you'd rather use that ~$11M on Igoudala or someone else of interest. My bet is it's a palatable option for Daryl — obviously better than just holding onto the non-guaranteeds indefinitely and blindly hoping, all while letting them occupy roster spots — but he wants to make sure one or two of his better options fail before committing to this path.

I think the rockets are waiting to see what iggy does. I would rather have shumpert in my opinion younger and also a good defender. Ultimately I think our end goal is to sign one of those 2 and get melo.

I heard Morey is trying to Convince him to go ahead and opt in his final year before he pulls the trigger on his player option...

Didn't realize Shumpert is only 26. I feel better about this. For some reason I thought he was 30ish

Cavs, Rockets near deal centered on Shumpert
[IMG]Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert has been at the center of recent trade discussions.

    JULY 1, 2017

The Cleveland Cavaliers are nearing a trade that would send guard Iman Shumpert to the Houston Rockets, according to ESPN.

Amico Hoops sources confirmed the report.

In return for Shumpert, the Cavs would receive “primarily a package of non-guaranteed contracts,” according to ESPN. Such a move “would allow Cleveland to create financial flexibility to pursue other roster upgrades,” the website noted.

Shumpert still has two years left and $21.3 million owed on a deal he signed with the Cavs in 2015.

Also, several opposing NBA executives have told Amico Hoops the Cavs contacted them to gauge interest in power forward Channing Frye. All indicated they are not interested in Frye at the moment, but could be later in the summer, once most of the top-tier free agents are signed.

The Cavs initially attempted to package Shumpert and Frye together, but spent the past week or so attempting to move them in separate deals, sources said.

Shumpert, 27, averaged 7.5 points in 76 games (31 starts) this past season. He was benched in the first playoff game by Cavs coach Tyronn Lue, but rebounded to play well in the Eastern Conference semifinals and finals.

Frye, 34, averaged 9.4 points in 75 games — his highest scoring average since 2013-14. His scoring dipped to 7.3 points in the playoffs.

Per ESPN: “By trading Shumpert, the committed salaries in Cleveland would drop from $125 million to $115 million guaranteed, $4 million below the luxury tax, and save the team $17.1 million in potential taxes.”

He ain't gonna sign for vet min, the foolish one is you. You'd rather have Cp3 at 34M rather than his current contract of 22M? Gtfo
