Literally everyone said it was leverage from the start and yet somehow we seem shocked that it ended up being leverage...

Sounds like Golden state will be victims of the luxury tax.

He's being offered what he wanted now. He'll make more on three years from the warriors than we could offer for four.

Show me, not being reported anywhere yet. Just that they are expected to offer 3/45. With cost of living the differences wouldn't be that much different in houston. We have made an offer that he liked and he went back to GS. Lets see what happens. It's not official until it's reported.

It is leverage, nothing wrong with that.

It's only leverage if the Warriors up their offer, if they don't and he takes the 2nd offer then it stops being leverage doesn't it?

Anyways, nothing was lost here. Make the Warriors hurt for everyone they sign.

Right nothing wrong with it. If that's all that comes from it that's fine. Sucks that the warriors managed to keep the entire team in tact

Could be a simple 3 year with a team option attached.

Don't they still have to sign Durant, Green, and Thompson?

    Edit:NVM about Green.

Looking at there cap it will be in two years

    38 Million for Durant
    40 Million for Curry
    18 Million for Green
    35 Million for Thompson
    15 Million for Iggy

That is about 140+million in cap. How can they even do that?

Basically, Iguodala took meetings in order to prevent the Warriors from taking him for granted. Sounds like the end result was that Golden State gave him a guaranteed third year instead of a partial guarantee.

Something to keep in mind regarding Iguodala:

The rumored max offer from GSW is 3 years $39-45 million total. The most the Rockets can offer is 4 years $36 million.

While it's true that our offer would be a year longer and less per year, either way this is probably his last significant contract....he may very well be signing for the minimum after this.

So on a nominal basis their offer is slightly better...but on a real, after-tax basis they are roughly the same. The Rockets offer might even be slightly better.

One would have to think GSW isn't going to offer that third year fully guaranteed.

You are counting on Durant at that point to take a pay cut or losing Thompson. No way they offer that third year as a player option in my opinion. No way.

Not exactly Bc after you take GS's state and local tax it's a robbery so he will still make less than the offer HOU has

That's WTF I'm trying to figure out. Meanwhile we can't even get nene without cap being an issue

Or you're counting on ownership to pay more luxury tax. That team has been trash for so many years, this is their period in the sun--the team's valuation has skyrocketed. They may just outlay the huge tax bill to hold it together and then worry about saving money and generating greater profits once this core is done.

They could also potentially trade someone like Klay for younger players/prospects. They don't need four stars to win and if they get the right young assets, they might recoup the value in terms of a stronger supporting cast around their three stars.

I dunno, I think they have options. A third year to Iguodala is probably not make-or-break for them. I hope it is, but it probably isn't.
