Report: Knicks turned down Anderson-for-Melo trade from Rockets
    William Lou Jun 30, 2017 8:59 PM
The New York Knicks are not opposed to shedding Carmelo Anthony, but they're not just going to give him away for free.

The Houston Rockets tried to approach the Knicks with a trade proposal of Ryan Anderson for Anthony, and not surprisingly, the deal gained little traction, sources told Ian Begley of ESPN.

Anthony holds a no-trade clause, but the presumption was that he might be interested in joining good friend Chris Paul in Houston.

Anderson is a prolific 3-point gunner, but his bloated contract has dissuaded any takers. The 29-year-old power forward averaged 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds last season while shooting 40.3 percent from deep, but is slated to earn $60 million over the next three seasons.

The Rockets tried a few weeks back to dump Anderson's contract onto any team that wanted him, but were unsuccessful. Clearing his salary off the books could potentially pave the way for the team to add another star player.

I told everyone a while back that Anderson's contract could be the worst in Rocket's history.

Totally....with Harden, Paul, Ariza and Capella in the starting 5, The Rockets are going to need a stretch 4.

I would like Ibaka or Milsap but Plan B should be to keep Anderson and add bench help w/length (Snell, Igudola or Sefolosha)

Rockets need to sweeten the deal for melo and offer a 1st and 2nd round pick with Anderson.

With okc getting paul George and the twolves getting butler the west keeps getting better and the east well the east sucks.

I'm a big Lebron fan but making the finals means nothing to his legacy imo. Your going against the weakest teams in the league.

I agree. He's a great small ball 4 if he's Team USA Melo.

I think a trade for Melo will require a 3rd team to take on Anderson.

Ryno's shooting didnt bother me. It was his lack of defense & DMo-like rebounding that urked me. If hes not hitting hes useless

Looks to me like Ryno's unloadability with that contract under the new CBA is a bet Morey made and lost.

In a vacuum, yes. But on the bright side, one could argue that Ryno's contract prevented us from getting Rubio. :)

I can't help but look at how last summer's moves revived both Gordon and MDA's careers by Morey doubling-down with 3s, and Harden having an MVP season. It all re-validated the league's confidence in MDA's offense, such that without the great improvement from our 41-41 season, do we even attract Chris Paul.

This next sentence might hurt your eyes.
Imagine if we had stuck with DMo and Dwight...

Stepping stones. An expensive one, but we might wildly improve again next year. Things are heating up.

Windhorst: If it were to happen, Melo & D'Antoni are cool with it. It's not happening now.

Lots of teams way below the cap floor that will need to give out some egregious contracts or absorb a guy like Anderson while also thinking he could be a good fit.

Apparently @Codman has referenced the Kings more than a few times, I'm sure they're always a possibility.
