rough. Crazy how things can change like that. Hoyt got a huge K, and then on the first 3-2 pitch...Gardner barely got a piece of a fairly nasty slider. Then, garbage pitch.
That's Hoyt, lots of Ks but overall he just isn't a major league pitcher Hopefully Luhnow will understand that soon
Feliz pitches differently when it's a clean inning and not having to inherit runners. If harris, giles, Luke or or devo get got I just say oh well baseball. They've earned that. But giving such momentum changing ultimate stress situations to Feliz and hoyt is putting those guys in harms way. Our gm in a 790 interview said one thing he would change about mlb is moving that trading deadline up. I feel him. All that said 2 more games in this series.
Outside of Harris-Devo-Giles (and maybe Luke), Feiz is the next best reliever. They were all rested tonight, but Hinch pitched Feliz first. If MIke did well, the big guns probably finish the game. MF didn't pitch well, so the "lessers" finished it.
Keuchel LMJ Pitcher X Morton Fiers/McHugh/Musgrove/whoever Giles Harris Devo Pitcher Y Peacock Gregerson Sipp Feliz/Hoyt/whoever/nobody This is what I expect to happen. Things start looking a lot better and more stable at that point.
Now you bring Gregerson in??? I haven't been the biggest Gregerson fan but he was a better choice earlier in the game when it was closer than Hoyt.
Using him today vs. letting Hoyt continue is a question. But earlier in the game, Hinch was looking for the K with the bases juiced and 1 out. Hoyt is far superior at avoiding contact...and he did it. He just also sucks. But I get going to someone with a K in mind over Luke
