if ariza remains on this team when this whole process is done, I'd say he'd still be the main guy guarding either of him

George is a better fit but Hayward leaves his ego at the door and that will be crucial in having to fit in on the perimeter with Paul and Harden

not sure why lesser known players that put in the work to get better have to be called overrated. that's always been a problem whereas popular names like PG13 just automatically get recognition despite the dropoff particularly defensively

I wouldn't trust PG. I use to talk **** about how selfish Carmelo is but at this point I would gladly accept him because I feel like he wants to revive his career and win. We could get a ring with PG and I bet he'd still jolt for LA first chance

Years ago I would have TOTALLY taken Deron Williams on the Rockets regardless of his Jazz affiliation

He isn't that much lesser known. Everyone knows who he is. I'm not saying he hasn't put in the work to be a great player. At some point though you realize the potential of their peak, and I think when both are at their peak, George is a bit higher. He may have dropped off a little this past year defensively, but I think he's still a pretty good defender. It's not that he's just getting recognition for his name. It's one season of sample size. He's in his prime right now as well. I feel like with less of a burden to score and be the #1 option, he could get back to that point of being 1st team all defense rather easily. He's proven he can be that kind of defender. Hayward is solid, I Just don't think he can give you both sides the same way George can.

It's because he's white isn't it? That's why you struggle with the comparison?

Gordon Hayward is a solid to good defender. Statistically he's basically the same on defense as Paul George the last few years. Better assist numbers, lower turnovers, fewer fouls. Now, George is bigger and can play the 4 at times. He's a better rebounder and has been a better 3 point shooter pretty much their entire careers until this year when Hayward got close to 40% finally.

Both are very good players. I like George better as a defender because he's longer and can switch better to the 4, but Hayward is a star player. Hayward is also more comfortable working off the ball, something that Indy writers have said has been a problem for George. He wants to be the man, he wants to dominate the ball.

yeah everyone knows who he is now, especially bc he's a FA but at this point like i said in my first post the difference isn't big enough between the two. I guess you can say its more of a preference thing. each guy as a slight edge on the other depending on what you're looking at specifically
