Hinch isn't killing them, but the starters are right now. It has definitely cost us a few games, as Hinch has to choose between evening out the innings or burning out his top guys. Unfortunately he seems to need his quality relievers in almost every game.

I would not call it unfortunate that almost every game the Astros have the lead late. If the offense would just stop scoring so many runs, Hinch would have the opportunity to just let starters pitch poorly deeper into games that are lost causes.

With this organization, I definitely think you can. I think we are watching innings pitched right now as much or more than any organization in baseball.

And understand, I'm not saying we don't need to add a starter to help the pen. I'm just saying we aren't gonna be in an overuse situation, we are gonna get more games like Tuesday where we use a guy like Hoyt so we don't overuse the top ones.

I didn't mean to imply I thought your conclusion was wrong. Just that the means used was. But yes, we have mitigated over-usage some by throwing other guys out there (many of which haven't done so well).

Juan Agosto appeared in 82 games in 1990, and took the mound in more than 70 games 4 years in a row.

MIke Marshall pitched in 198 games over 2 years, pitching 387 innings, won 1 Cy Young and finished 2nd the other year. I don't see how that's relevant.

Rube Waddell has a career 2.16 ERA. His last name starts with a W, we won last night. Coincidence? You tell me.

Astros traded Mike Marshall to the Expos for Don Bosch. Stupid Luhnow.

The unfortunate part is that the starters or lesser bullpen guys keep giving up so many runs/baserunners that 10 runs isn't a blowout. Or struggling to go enough innings to avoid using the main guys. Last night we score 11 runs, and use Harris, Giles, Gregerson & Feliz. Last week we were leading 10-0 and ended up needing Feliz & Devenski.

We also have the games like the one we beat the Mariners 8-2, but the game ended up using Feliz, Devenski, Harris, & Gregerson (for a combined 7 innings) because Martes clearly didn't have it, and it was a close game until the offense put a 4 spot in the 9th.

We've had one starter go 6 innings in the past 10 games. That was Fiers on the 21st and he went exactly 6. 2 turns through the rotation, and only one time did the starter reach the necessary innings threshold for a quality start.

Worse GM: Jeff Luhnow or Spec Richardson? Pretty much a tossup to me.

Goodness, you folks realize Morton and Keuchel are still out, Lance was out, Peacock was out on paternity leave, and Musgrove was out and has now been demoted? Yes, that means the replacement starters are not as likely to go deep into games. Yes, that means the bullpen will need to do more work. Hinch has been using the scrubs as much as he can, but they are just that, scrubs. What did yall think was going to happen? Sheesh.

Most of their rotation is out? I did not realize that.

When did Hinch become a nurse? Why is he going through so many scrubs? I hope hes wearing comfortable shoes; Nurses stay on their feet an enormous amount of time.

jesus, what an awful missed inning-ending K that turned into a BB. Gotta see what %age of that call is missed...gotta be super low. Glad they worked around it

edit: surprising that 20% of the calls well in the zone are missed.

wow, hell of a play by Joyce. Absolute robbery, hanging in the air. Reddick somehow muscled that off the end of the bat.

Solid job by the fan of being there for the play but not interfering over the line

Lot of balls that gets just caught in the bottom of the zone end in dirt, which umps rare call strikes.
